To ensure timely, effective and efficient quality patient care highlighting any concerns to senior staff as necessary. To assist/undertake supervised surgical procedures where instructed/trained to do so, in elective and emergency situations. To assist Consultant staff in theatre, working within boundaries of own limitations and GMC guidance. There will be opportunities to perform research and to learn surgical procedures from an experienced team of General Surgeons. The Unit has both specialist Upper and Lower GI surgeons as well as a comprehensive General Surgery department. Active participation is expected in the Departmental meetings, rota management and departmental junior doctor teaching programmes. Clinical audit projects are actively-encouraged in the Department, whilst participation in clinical governance and morbidity & mortality meetings is mandatory. You should possess full GMC registration and possession of the MRCS in General Surgery is desirable but not essential.
