Job summary
The Whalebridge Practice is looking for aflexible, motivated Health Care Assistant to join our Practice Nursing Team.You will be required to carry out a range of duties including venepuncture, newpatient health checks, smoking cessation, blood pressure and cardiac clinics.
We have three sites, two in the town centre and one in West Swindon.
This is offered as a full time post. Opportunities for further training and developmentwill be offered.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills and a commitment to working as part of a strong and effective team. We are open Monday to Friday from 8am to pm. You will be required to work shifts within these opening times and shifts that are rostered at least a month in advance.

MAIN ROLE AND PURPOSEOF THE POST
The Health Care Assistantwill:
Bea member of the clinical team.
Providephlebotomy, in accordance with current guidelines and local protocols.
PerformNew Patient Health Checks, in accordance with local protocols.
Referpatients to other clinicians as necessary
Provide routine clinical care to patientsaccording to locally approved protocols, under supervision of the NursePractitioner.
Work across multiple sites managed andoperated by The Whalebridge Group.
SPECIFICRESPONSIBILITIES
Understand the principles of healthy living andprovide relevant health promotion literature to patients.
Assistclinicians in the emergency management of patients.
Collectpatient data such as blood pressure, height, weight and ECG in accordance withpractice protocols and your competence to operate the necessary equipment.
Recorddata on patient electronic records in an accurate and timely manner.
Summarisepatient notes and provide administrative assistance to the nursing team.
Providesmoking cessation support to patients in accordance with your training andpractice protocols.
RunBlood Pressure and Cardiac Clinics.
Prepare the consulting andtreatment rooms for effective consultation, maintaining stocks of examinationinstruments, stores and specimen collection materials, and ensuring couches andwork benches/drawers are kept clean.
Maintain the system formonitoring and ordering clinical supplies.
Ensure that all specimenstaken by clinicians, or brought in by patients, are ready for collection bypathology service.
Assist in maintaining safestorage of drugs and vaccines under the direction of the Nurse Practitioner.
Ensure that you comply withinfection control guidelines.
Maintain patient privacy anddignity at all times, respecting patients rights, and preferences, and adopt anon-judgemental manner when interacting with patients.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
1. Maths & English GCSE grade C or above.
2. Trained in Phlebotomy.
3. Have worked with members of the public in a face to face situation.
4. Understand the concept of infection control.
5. Good communication skills.
6. Work well as part of a team.
7. Basic keyboard skills.
8. Competent in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
9. Demonstrate a commitment to continued personal development.
10. Able to manage own workload with limited direct supervision.
Desirable
11. Trained in smoking cessation.
12. NVQ 2 in health.
13. Care Certificate.
14. Have worked in a health care environment.
15. Experience of any clinical systems.
