BMW Financial Services GB, Farnborough – Risk & Control - 13 Month Placement (July 2025)
We have 4 opportunities for you to be involved in Risk and Control in Farnborough.
The Multi Make Asset Risk team is responsible for managing the non-BMW Group brands residual value (RV) and maintenance (SMR) risk on the BMW Group Financial Services vehicle portfolio, this includes both Alphabet GB Limited and Alphera Financial Services. This involves forecasting the RV and SMR for all available non-Group vehicle manufacturers and models for the Alphabet and Alphera quotation system, as well as managing the risk of vehicles currently on the live fleet, all of which is critical to the success and profitability of the business.
5. Analysis of new and used vehicle market, often with very large data sets, for example: current used car values and forecasts, auction sales, vehicle depreciation and vehicle usage.
6. Stay abreast of the car and commercial vehicle industry and trends, and the factors the impact used vehicle values, with a high focus on electrification and future technology.
7. Support with the overall Asset Risk strategy and both ongoing and new projects.
The Risk Control team is responsible for ensuring the risk costs are accurately calculated and provided for within the Financial Accounts. The main types of Risks within Financial Services are Residual Value Risk, Credit Risk and Interest Rate and Liquidity Risk.
8. Collaborate with various internal departments (Remarketing, Controlling, Commercial, Data) and the wider BMW Group on new model launches and the BMW Financial Services international team.
9. Support Risk Controlling Analysts with the Forecasting and Budgeting of risk costs, preparation of monthly risk provisions and ad-hoc queries.
10. Ownership of monthly reporting tasks that will be assigned to you to individually manage.
The Credit Risk team takes full responsibility for Retail and Wholesale Credit Risk for BMW Financial Services. We manage this by developing and maintaining risk models and processes, all with the general aim of providing an appropriate structure to be implemented into IT systems to ensure correct lending decisions are made. This role offers meaningful realistic involvement in all areas of Risk in a high profile international company.
11. Opportunities to work with Management and to present at Management Committees.
12. Exploring and developing the use of the wealth of data available using industry recognised techniques and tools such as data mining in SAS.
13. Involvement in the development of Retail application Credit Scorecards, large scale data manipulation techniques and exposure to the balance between statistical results and business requirements.
The Credit Management team take full responsibility for Credit lending decisions across our BMW/MINI & ALPHERA Retailer network. Utilising a wide range of tools and techniques we ensure correct lending decisions are made to best support our customers. This role offers meaningful realistic involvement in all areas of Credit in a high-profile international company, suiting someone with aspirations in a future career in accounting/audit or credit.
14. Involvement in implementation of statistical models into live systems and further monitoring of their performance, analysis of issues and potential for improvement.
15. Support the preparation of credit reports with lending recommendation and conditions.
16. Early identification of adverse warning signs and recommend action as appropriate to mitigate our risk.
Qualifications & Skills:
17. Studying toward a Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and on track to achieve a 2:2 or above, for example Business Studies, Economics, Maths, Finance.
18. Strong numerical A Level and GCSE’s
19. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, especially Excel.
20. Self-motivated and organised, able to prioritise, use your initiative and manage time effectively.
21. Excellent communication, presentation and influencing skills.
22. Good attention to detail and be willing to learn new systems.
