We are currently looking to speak to senior level professionals with a construction and estimating background to work for our client McAndrew Martin as a Construction Estimator. The role will be based at their offices in Portsmouth.
You will have main contractor experience within the construction or design & build environment.
With experience in pricing, costing, quantity surveying, pre construction, estimating, tenders and bid management - you will be responsible for managing multiple projects across a wide cross section of clients. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the preparation of cost estimates for projects, ensuring accuracy and adherence to budgetary constraints. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders to deliver precise estimates that align with project specifications.
Preferably with experience working on construction and refurbishment projects in multiple sectors including Defence, healthcare, education and commercial.
As well as experience in the field, ideally we are looking for people with suitable and relevant qualifications, such as level 7 Construction Senior Management, BSc Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Level 6 NVQ Estimating or HND Quantity Surveying.
This is a permanent role and you will be joining McAndrew Martin during a period of expansive growth working on new and exciting projects in the commercial, MOD and defence industries. Below is an overview of the role - you will ideally need experience of working on construction and refurbishment projects in relevant sectors such as commercial, defence, healthcare or education.
While the salary range is very broad, it is very much open to discussion based on the persons experience, merit, knowledge, skill and behaviour. Ideally the person will be office based in Portsmouth, however if required, hybrid working can be an option if necessary. Please note for this role you will be required to obtain a level of security clearance to allow you to work with certain clients and projects. (Candidates will need to be UK based with full right to work)
*Duties*
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for projects by analysing blueprints, specifications, and other documentation.
- Collaborate with project managers and design engineers to gather necessary information for accurate estimating.
- Conduct thorough market research to determine material costs and labour rates.
- Monitor project costs throughout the lifecycle, providing updates and recommendations for cost control measures.
- Assist in the development of project budgets and financial forecasts.
- Prepare and present estimates to clients and stakeholders, addressing any queries or concerns.
- Maintain an organised database of past estimates for reference in future projects.
- Maintain a database of approved sub-contractors
- Stay updated on industry trends, materials, and techniques that may impact estimating processes.
*Qualifications*
- Proven experience as an Estimator or in a similar role within the construction or manufacturing industry is preferred.
- Strong understanding of cost control principles and practices.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.
- Excellent mathematical skills with a high level of accuracy in calculations.
- Strong Estimating analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present information clearly.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is essential.
- A degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field is desirable.
Salary: To be discussed - £50,000 - £65,000 pa
Location: Portsmouth (hybrid/travel as required)
