Job Description: Principal Planning and Highways Solicitor
Allen Lane is supporting a Local Authority in their recruitment for a Principal Planning and Highways Solicitor.
Key Responsibilities and Requirements:
1. Demonstrated understanding of the local government legal framework, including relevant practice and policy issues related to planning and highways law.
2. Ability to apply and interpret law pertaining to the service area.
3. Experience advising on large-scale property development projects is desirable.
4. At least two years post-qualification experience, preferably in a Local Authority setting.
5. Knowledge of the legal framework and operation of Local Government.
6. Experience in planning and delivering legal briefings or training courses.
7. Proven ability to manage high-volume planning and highways transactions efficiently and accurately.
8. Ability to advise on governance and constitutional matters.
9. Experience in leading, managing, or supervising a team of professionals.
10. Skill in developing client relationships and identifying opportunities for work expansion.
11. Competence in conducting legal research, interpreting legislation, and summarizing case law.
12. Track record of managing a team’s workload and attracting new clients or work areas.
13. Thorough knowledge of court and appeal procedures.
14. Knowledge of other relevant legal areas such as contract, commercial law, and litigation.
15. Advocacy skills and knowledge of Civil and Criminal Procedure.
Qualifications:
Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales, member of the Bar with completed pupillage, or qualified Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives or Chartered Legal Executive.
