The Youth Engagement Officer is key to ensuring that all The Playhouse’s youth activity champions inclusion, equity, and creative innovation, with BRIDGE and the Open Arts Pathway funded by BBC Children in Need. The role is responsible for coordinating youth programmes of varying scale and complexity off-site and in our historic building.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about nurturing diverse young people’s creativity and increasing performance arts experiences. You will be learner-focused with a high level of emotional intelligence and empathy and have a highly organized, collaborative approach that makes you an excellent team player. You will understand the value of systems to support delivery and best practice and be competent and familiar with Child Protection, Health & Safety, GDPR, and Safeguarding procedures and legislation.
Key Responsibilities
1. Coordinate youth programmes of varying scale and complexity off-site and in our historic building with a focus on BRIDGE and The Open Arts Pathway.
2. Coordinate creative learning courses and activities for young people from diverse backgrounds, including recruiting and contracting artists and creative facilitators, recruitment of partners and/or participants, registration, marketing, general administration, and finances.
3. Understand best practice in inclusive creative learning practices for the performing arts, appreciating barriers to access and educational attainment.
4. Understand best learning and participation practice in diverse settings, including schools, universities/technical colleges, and community settings.
5. Stay up to date with national and international trends in creative learning and participation.
6. Build strong relationships with organizations working to improve the lives and creative opportunities of young people.
7. Research relevant sectors locally, nationally, and internationally to support building extensive partnerships in learning and participation.
8. Develop knowledge of The Playhouse projects, policies, and activities to respond confidently and accurately to pitches and queries.
9. Maintain ethical and responsible processes and behaviors across the learning and participation activity and ensure all activities are safe and compliant.
10. Work within and support the vision of The Playhouse to Create Community, Celebrate Diversity, and Empower People through the Arts.
11. Work creatively and collaboratively with colleagues across The Playhouse, contributing to the difference we make for the people and communities we serve.
