We are looking for a Network Technician to fill the role of Communication Technician in the support of the University of Edinburgh's Network.
The network underpins all university activities including research, learning and teaching, student accommodation, conference and events as well as university operations. With a population of over 50,000 users, you will help support services to more than 250 locations across Edinburgh. This challenging role ensures the network is available 24/7 for all users and that incidents are responded to promptly to minimise any disruption. The post requires one week in four on call working.
You will be joining the team as we approach the end of a full University network replacement and start to prepare for phase 2, where we will look to maximise the benefits of the new technology and further improve the service., Configuring and testing software systems and hardware components prior to deployment in the field.
Creating and updating online diagrams and records.
Routine operational configuration changes.
Qualified to HND level or higher in a relevant area, and/or relevant experience in a similar environment; or relevant experience involving progressively more demanding work.
A good working knowledge of a range of data networking, telecommunications and security technologies, acquired over a number of years, with a basic understanding of the principles underlying the technology.
Experience in the use of network installation and monitoring tools.
An appreciation of electrical regulations, Health and Safety standards and relevant building regulations.
The ability to analyse and solve difficult technical problems in a calm, rational manner whilst under pressure.
Full clean UK driving licence for and ideally your own car for on call and flexibly attending site.
A competitive salary of £33,882 to £39,105 with the addition of 15% premium band and 15% on call.
