Manchester CBO Health PCN Limited would like to recruit aPharmacy Technician to complement our current Pharmacy Team. This role will bebased over the thirteen member practices of the PCN.
Pharmacy Technicians play an important rolewithin PCNs and complement the more clinical work of Clinical Pharmacists,through utilisation of their clinical and technical skillset. Their deploymentwithin primary care settings allows the application of their acquiredpharmaceutical knowledge in tasks such as audits, discharge management,prescription issuing, and where appropriate, informing patients and othermembers of PCN workforce. Work is often under the direction of ClinicalPharmacists as part of the PCN pharmacy team. They will lead systemimprovements to maximise safe, cost effective best practice in prescribing toimprove the quality of patient care, including improved repeat prescribing andmedicines optimisation.
Main duties of the job
Key tasks include: Undertaking patient-facing and patient supportingroles to ensure effective medicines use, through shared decision-making,medicines optimisation, supporting medication reviews and reconciliation fornew care home patients, synchronising medicines for patient transfers betweencare settings and linking with local community pharmacies, supportingantimicrobial stewardship and providing expertise to address both the publichealth and social care needs of patients, including lifestyle advice, serviceinformation, and help in tackling local health inequalities. Providing supportto the PCN multi-disciplinary team by: implementing efficient ordering andreturn processes and reducing medication wastage; supporting practice receptionteams in streaming general prescription requests, so as to allow GPs andclinical pharmacists to review the more clinically complex requests; providingtraining and support on the legal, safe and secure handling of medicines,including the implementation of the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS).

Job responsibilities
The role asPharmacy Technician within GP Practice, is to support the Practice basedClinical Pharmacists to ensure the delivery of safe, effective and efficientsystems for repeat prescribing, medicines optimisation, reducing medicineswaste and maximising patient outcomes.
To work under the supervision of the Senior ClinicalPharmacist to ensure the safe, accurate and timely supply of prescribedmedication to patients.
To provide technical and administrative support to theClinical Pharmacists and Clinicians.
To support the primary care team with queries aroundmedication from patients; including face to face and telephone support topatients, primary and community staff.
Knowledge ofthe principles of medication optimisation
Good pharmacyknowledge including terminology
A key part ofthe role will be dealing with daily medication requests and queries andcommunicating with patients and Community Pharmacies. In addition, the post holderwill be responsible for encouraging the development of better understanding ofthe principles of medicines optimisation throughout the practice teams andpromoting good practice in line with therapeutic developments. This willinvolve assisting the Practices in achieving national requirements, andutilisation of medicines optimisation initiatives.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* NVQ Level 3/ BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent qualification
* Enrolled on or qualified from Primary Care Pharmacy Educational Pathway (PCPEP) or Medicines Optimisation in Care Homes (MOCH) or be willing to enrol on.
* Post qualification experience in community pharmacy, secondary care or primary care
* Recent experience working as a registered pharmacy technician, preferably in a hospital environment.
* An appreciation of the nature of primary care prescribing, concepts of rational prescribing and strategies for improvement of prescribing
* Knowledge and understanding of pharmacy law and ethics and current legislation
* Understanding of current national policies, in particular those that impact on medicines management services
* Excellent communication skills written and verbal including the ability to communicate complex information in situations where there may be barriers to understanding both to patients, their families / carers and other professionals
* Ability to follow policy and procedure
* Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team
* Flexible and cooperative
* Displays self-confidence and self-awareness, especially in dealing with staff and patients
* Understanding of community pharmacy systems
* Organisational skills
* Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
