Organisation: Stoke on Trent City Council Libraries Division
Location: City-wide
Area of interest: Heritage, Culture and Arts Based Roles, Supporting Adults, Sharing Existing or Learning New Skills
Number of Volunteers required: 8
Description:
As part of CLaY: Communities, Libraries and You, Stoke-on-Trent Libraries are setting up Bereavement support groups in libraries.
These groups will provide a relaxed social setting where people can come and talk about loved ones they have lost. Groups are designed to provide a safe space where people can talk openly if they wish or simply spend time amongst others who have a shared experience of grief. We aim to provide a warm space, a warm drink, and a warm welcome to anyone who needs a little bit of support.
We are looking for caring individuals who understand how grief, loss, and bereavement can be a very lonely and isolating experience and would feel confident in welcoming people to the group, providing a sympathetic ear, helping people make new connections with others in the group, and signposting individuals to other groups and professional organisations to help them get the very best support where necessary.
Training will be provided, and regular meetings and wellbeing sessions will be arranged to fully support volunteers as part of the CLaY project.
We are looking for:
1. A friendly person with great social skills
2. Someone who is warm and caring and can engage well with people
3. Someone with patience and good listening skills
4. Someone with knowledge of useful community support services
5. 12 months commitment (ideally)
You will be required to have a DBS check which will be submitted by ourselves, and you will be reimbursed for vehicle travel expenses. To register your interest please click here.
