Ask us about flexible working options to fit with your work/life balance - HappytoTalkFlexible The Role We have a rare opportunity for a dedicated and conscientious part time Highways Inspector to join a customer focused Highways team in delivering a safer road network for all its users. The hours of work will preferably be during the morning, Monday-Thursday working from 8:30am through to 12:15pm and Friday from 8:30am 12:00pm. The role will job share with a current postholder. The Highways Inspector is a key role in delivering our statutory duty to maintain our highways through a range of inspections across our network, identifying maintenance needs, and monitoring the use of contractors and other third parties. Other duties of the role include liaising with all highway users including the public as well as Council Members, investigating complaints relating to highways infringements, attending court to provide evidence in legal matters, and ensuring compliance in respect to approved codes of practice and regulations. About You The successful candidate must have practical knowledge of highway maintenance and be familiar with highway construction, repair techniques, have experience with contractors, and be able to interpret the relevant codes of practice. You should have excellent communication skills, be IT literate, and be able to self-motivate yourself to work to the highest standards and prioritise your workload accordingly. Teamwork is essential to the role, and you must be willing to support colleagues where necessary, receiving support in return. This role has been designated as an essential car user; therefore, you must possess a current, valid driving licence and a vehicle with a valid MOT certificate. The role will be based from Paderborn House, but you will be travelling around the borough for much of your time.
