We are in the process of recruiting an Occupational Therapy Assistant to become a member of our Occupational Therapy Team, aimed at facilitating recovery and rehabilitation within one of our care pathways at Cygnet Hospital Taunton.
We are looking for someone with experience working in a mental health setting, or be able to demonstrate transferable skills to come and join us.
Cygnet Taunton offers emergency acute admission services for both men and women, along with a specialised pathway for men diagnosed with Learning Disabilities, facilitating their transition from acute care to rehabilitation if appropriate according to onward needs. The Occupational Therapy team, consisting of eight professionals, operates across the acute wards to deliver high-quality, person-centred therapy sessions. The role of the Occupational Therapy Assistant entails the planning and execution of therapeutic activities tailored to the needs, preferences, and interests of the individuals in our care, under the supervision and direction of a qualified Occupational Therapist. Additionally, the Occupational Therapy Assistant collaborates with the in-house multidisciplinary team (MDT) to provide comprehensive support to individuals throughout their journey with us.
Salary: £21,800 per annum
Hours: 32 hours per week, 4 days per week between 8:30am and 4:30pm (with some flexibility)
Responsible for: Supporting Occupational Therapists to perform their role in the assessment, treatment and development of individuals in our care.
Responsible to: Ward Occupational Therapist and Head of Occupational Therapy (Line manager)
In this role you will:
* Deliver planned activities for patients under the direction of the ward Occupational Therapist (OT) and Multidisciplinary Team.
* Assist the OT in the day to day duties and running of the department.
* Undertake assessment and intervention programmes with clients as delegated by a senior occupational therapist underpinned by appropriate experience / knowledge.
* Contribute ideas, create and facilitate events and activities safely and support people to structure their time through meaningful activity.
* Have involvement in the delivery of one-to-one and group interventions.
* Implement individual care plans during activity sessions and take into account specific interests and opportunities to promote choice and independence.
The ideal candidate will have:
* Experience working in a mental health setting, or be able to demonstrate transferable skills.
* Experience running groups and activities.
* Ability to respond flexibly to changing situations, which impact on service delivery.
* Plan and manage a schedule/timetable for self and others.
* An understanding of the importance of occupation and activity, which are fundamental to a person's health and wellbeing, within the context of their various environments.
