Purpose of role:
The purpose of this role is to own and project manage the delivery of statutory and regulatory reporting for the Synthomer Group in Europe (12 countries, 40 corporate tax returns and 41 statutory accounts). A good understanding of tax and the concepts that would apply to each country is required, along with knowledge of the composition of statutory accounts and concepts such as IFRS and local GAAP for European jurisdictions. This role will also support management and contribute to ad-hoc business projects as required.
Main accountabilities:
* Coordinate and project manage the European Corporate Tax Compliance and Statutory Accounts preparation with our chosen co-source provider, working alongside the Group Tax and Finance Team (12 countries, 45 corporate tax returns and 41 statutory accounts).
* Review specific claims such as R&D tax credits and capital allowances claims, working with external advisers to support and maximize claims where possible.
* Work with our co-source provider and the Finance team to ensure corporate tax returns, tax payments, and statutory accounts are accurate and filed/made on time.
* Work with the Finance Team to represent Direct Taxes, improving processes and understanding around corporate tax, withholding taxes, and employment taxes - such as PAYE Settlement Agreements.
* Ensure corporate taxes and year-end local GAAP adjustments are correctly booked in the underlying SAP systems and feed into group reporting under the IFRS and the secondary ledgers.
* Act as the first point of contact for European Tax Authorities on Direct Tax audits, working alongside the Group Tax team and external advisers on strategy/approach.
* Work alongside Group Tax and the Finance Team to ensure local GAAP and Direct Tax requirements are fully considered in our implementation of S4 Hana.
* Involvement in finance projects and ad-hoc requests.
Project Activity:
* Participate as required in the Finance Transformation programme, working with other Finance team members and the wider business to deliver our vision for Group Finance.
* Participate in process and business improvement initiatives related to either directly to Accounting Operations or the wider business.
* Participate in M&A activity as required - including but not limited to providing or analysing data for due diligence activity, preparing processes and systems for transition, validating and testing data, ensuring resources are in place and trained.
Essential Skills and Knowledge:
* Accounting qualification (CIMA/ACA/ACCA).
* Experience of preparing statutory accounts.
* Knowledge of IFRS.
* Experience of tax compliance.
* Experience of preparing year-end tax provisions for group reporting.
* Ability to work independently and build relations with all stakeholders.
* Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, written and verbal.
* Ability to lead and manage a project effectively.
* Extensive experience and judgment in planning and accomplishing goals.
* Strong analytical skills.
* Experience in working cross-functionally and in a matrix environment.
* Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
Preferred/Desired:
* Tax Qualification ATT/CTA.
Location and Travel requirements:
Position is part of the European Shared Service Centre team in Harlow (UK). A hybrid working model is in place with 3 days in the office per week. Some travel expected to other Synthomer locations as required.
