GSL Education are seeking a committed and empathetic SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA) to join schools in Gainsborough.
About the SEMH TA role:
In this role, you will play a key part in providing tailored support to students facing SEMH challenges, helping them develop the skills needed to overcome barriers to learning. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with experience in SEMH settings, youth work, or care roles who are looking to positively impact young lives.
Your responsibilities as an SEMH Teaching Assistant:
* Provide dedicated support to students with SEMH needs, both individually and in small groups.
* Implement bespoke learning and support plans to meet each student’s needs.
* Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe classroom environment.
* Assist students in building social, emotional, and coping skills.
* Collaborate with teachers and pastoral staff to support students' progress and well-being.
* De-escalate challenging behaviours calmly and effectively.
* Encourage positive interactions and engagement with learning activities.
* Keep accurate records of student progress and provide feedback to staff.
* Work with parents, carers, and external agencies to support student development.
* Follow school policies, including those related to behaviour management and safeguarding.
SEMH TA Requirements:
* Previous experience working with SEMH or challenging behaviour as an SEMH Teaching Assistant is highly desirable.
* Qualifications such as CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Childcare or Teaching Assistance, or similar are advantageous.
* Any degree in Psychology, counselling, education or a similar field.
* Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
* Patience, resilience, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
* A genuine passion for helping young people overcome challenges and succeed.
* An enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply for one.
