We are currently working with an exciting start-up company based in Cambridge that is working on bringing to market a novel energy storage application. As the company continues to grow with recent funding secured, they are now looking to hire an Electrochemist to strengthen its R&D team on a permanent, full-time basis.
As an Electrochemist, you will be responsible for conducting cutting-edge research, developing electrochemical processes, and contributing to the advancement of our client’s energy storage applications.
The ideal candidate should hold a PhD in Chemistry (or closely related), coupled with a strong background in electrochemistry and understanding of electrochemical cells (batteries, supercapacitors, electrolysis and/or fuel cells).
Key Responsibilities:
1. Researching and evaluating performance improvements in our client’s energy storage cells to achieve the potential of the technology.
2. Leading and supporting the Senior Scientist on individual research projects, contributing to the setting of objectives and scheduling of work.
3. Manage resources on a daily basis – setting objectives and scheduling work.
4. Using a range of electrochemical techniques to provide targeted recommendations and solutions that benefit the wider research group and the development of the technology.
5. Lead electrochemist testing capacity.
6. Contribute to various research and development programmes when required: Being the electrochemical testing lead for some individual programmes.
7. Owning and ensuring the safe, efficient use of various processes and equipment.
8. Where appropriate, liaising with external suppliers, directly or in a supportive capacity.
Key Requirements:
1. PhD (Preferred) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field with a focus in electrochemistry.
2. Robust theoretical knowledge in electrochemistry and electrochemical techniques & principles.
3. Electrode modification and characterisation experience is advantageous.
4. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) experience is also advantageous.
5. Teamwork experience and skills.
6. High perseverance and ability to build upon constructive criticism.
