Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Transfusion department at University Hospitals Dorset for a Transfusion Practitioner. Within our department and Trust, we have a patient centred attitude, striving to provide the best possible care and creating a positive and supportive environment within the Trust. Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced Registered Nurses or Biomedical Scientists. Job share will be considered for suitably qualified and experienced applicants. Base Location: Royal Bournemouth Hospital (This is a UHD post and there may be a requirement to also work at Poole Hospital). Interview Date: TBC.
Main duties of the job
You will be required to deliver training and lectures to individuals and groups of varying size including multiple disciplines and attend meetings of the hospital transfusion group, transfusion team as well as UHD specific meetings and regional and national transfusion meetings. You will be responsible for training and supporting clinical staff in sample collection, blood component collection and transfusion administration via the use of Haemonetics BloodTrack system ensuring staff understand their responsibilities in relation to compliance with regulations. You will also be responsible for the investigation and reporting of clinical transfusion and laboratory related incidents to SHOT/SABRE and perform root cause analysis when required following the department and Trust policies and procedures.

Qualifications
Essential criteria:
* HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) registered Biomedical Scientist or NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) registered Nurse
* Higher degree qualification e.g. MSc or level 7 qualification in a relevant subject
* Post registration teaching and assessment qualification or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria:
* Management and/or leadership qualification
Experience
Essential criteria:
* Minimum of 5 years post-registration experience
* Demonstrated teaching and training experience in blood transfusion practices
* Experience of implementing and managing change
* Experience of investigating incidents and performing root cause analysis
* Development and provision of education, training and supporting strategies
Desirable criteria:
* Clinical audit experience
Technical skills
Essential criteria:
* Highly developed IT skills and able to use Microsoft office software (e.g. Word, Excel and PowerPoint) to present complex information
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Able to identify and provide training needs
* Able to establish effective relationships with other health professions and multidisciplinary groups across an organisation
* Effective logical thought processes, ability to solve problems, plan and facilitate remedial action
Desirable criteria:
* Familiarity with Quality Management Software e.g. Q-Pulse
Knowledge
Essential criteria:
* Specialist knowledge of transfusion processes and practices
* Knowledge of current Blood Transfusion legislative requirements and guidelines - MHRA, BSQRs, ISO, SABRE, PBM and NICE
* Aware of Clinical Governance and Risk Management policies associated with the Transfusion process
