You are invited to apply for the post of Band 6 Gastro-surgical Dietitian at Colchester Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to work flexibly within a friendly & supportive team. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience of working effectively in this specialist area. The role includes managing ward referrals within the acute dietetics pool but applying specialist knowledge & skills to surgical/ gastroenterology patients. There will also be an opportunity to increase knowledge & skills in Critical care, parenteral nutrition and inflammatory bowel disease & cover these aspects of the service as required.
The Nutrition & Dietetic Department are a friendly department of dietitians and dietetic assistants & have access to administrative staff. We are co-located with nutrition nurses who provide excellent support. The post holder will contribute to student training & supervision of assistants & apprentices., To provide a highly specialised service to in-patients using specialist knowledge and expertise in dietetic management of Gastroenterology and surgery to manage ward patients, as well as supporting the adult acute referral pool to identify and prioritise appropriate patients.
To provide a highly specialised service to inpatients on the Critical care unit, shared with the Specialist Nutrition Support Dietitian as required.
To work with the Nutrition Support Specialist dietitian, Nutrition Support team and Professional Lead for Nutrition & Dietetics to develop the gastro/surgical dietetic service in line with national guidance.
To cover for the IBD MDT and to support the IBD clinic when required.
To provide an out- patient service for gastroenterology and surgical patients as required.
To attend multidisciplinary team meetings and case conferences as required
To undertake joint assessments with the Speech and Language Therapists as required
To be involved in the discharge planning of patients on continuing nutrition support
The post holder must have excellent communication skills & be flexible & able to use their own initiative. Post registration experience in enteral nutrition and gastroenterology is essential.
