Laser Operator – January 2025 Start What’s the job & who would it suit? We have an exciting opportunity for a Laser Operator to join us in January 2025 at SSC Laser in Hixon. The position requires you to set and run state of the art lasers to produce products from CNC files to the specification and quality required by the customer and business. The role would suit someone with experience of working within a manufacturing environment and knowledge of how to operate a Fiber laser. We take responsibility for what we do The team you’ll be working in Working within the production team, you will be an integral part of meeting production requirements and maximising capacity, ensuring that we deliver a great result for both the customer and our business. What you’ll be doing So that you can get a feel for the job, here is what you will be doing day to day: Operation of our flat-bed fiber lasers to cut sheet and plate in mild steel and non-ferrous material with possible progression onto tube fiber laser Managing the cutting schedule to meet production requirements and maximize capacity Work pro-actively and as part of a team to improve productivity and efficiency Packing and labelling of cut parts ready for despatch Clear and accurate completion of internal paperwork and job sheets and updating of work operating system. Loading and unloading material onto the laser beds Use of forklift in a safe and courteous manner Checking quality of cut parts Cleanliness and tidiness of immediate area To check machine operation and carry out daily and weekly maintenance tasks To store and organise materials in relevant storage areas Senior Laser Operators would also: What you’ll need to succeed Need to know A knowledge of how to operate a fiber laser Knowledge of how to read technical engineering drawings Additional for Senior Operator Need to have FLT license is preferred but not essential as training can be given Experience of fiber lasers Experience of working within a manufacturing environment Support and train / upskill other Laser Operators Ensure the smooth running of the laser area, whilst maintaining quality output at all times. Oversee the prioritisation of all orders as per their despatch date Oversee jobs on the lasers, supporting and training of less experienced Operators when required, to ensure quality and productivity is maintained at all times, whilst fulfilling your department’s role in achieving the OTIF Able to set and operate all flat-bed lasers (including complex jobs) with no supervision How to adapt your approach and style when supporting others Additional for Senior Operator Experience of troubleshooting and diagnosing machine issues Experience of training / coaching others Need to demonstrate We have a number of core competencies that we believe are fundamental to both individual and business success. Week 2 - Monday - Thursday 13:45 - 22:15 with 45 minutes of unpaid breaks, Friday 13:00 - 20:45 with 45 minutes of unpaid breaks. Salary: £24,000 – £30,000 depending on previous experience. Additional pay bands depending on experience or if multiskilled on other machines. What’s on offer?
