The post holder will facilitate, manage, and be responsible for the effective management and movement of patients through all the emergency acute care areas, combining considerable experience, clinical relationships, utilization of staff and available resources appropriately whilst adhering to all departmental, Trust, and Government policies, ensuring all patients receive a high standard of specialist nursing care.
The post holder will be a clinical expert and an excellent role model, providing a clear focus for clinical leadership, and be responsible for ensuring excellence through clinical care, managing, teaching, and encouraging professional development for all staff whilst meeting the Emergency Department Clinical Quality Indicators, KPIs, and National Performance Targets and where necessary the wider acute floor.
Main duties of the job
Would you like to join our friendly emergency care team in Brighton’s Major Trauma Centre and be part of the leadership and management of the Department’s Patients and Staff? Are you interested in managing and developing nursing skills and have a desire to care for emergency care patients? You will have superb career and professional development opportunities. We currently have 5 Resus and 26 majors cubicles. We have a busy minor’s area and a large ambulatory clinical decision unit. Excitingly, a multimillion-pound redevelopment of the acute floor has begun which will bring the emergency department up to date with a purpose-built 8 bedded resus and modern fit for purpose department. The department sees around 250-300 patients per day.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To act as a positive, effective, and appropriate role model at all times.
Maintain and develop team morale, supporting all colleagues and assertively dealing with conflict.
To work closely with the Matron and Lead Clinician so that the vision and the goals of the Emergency Department are translated into practice.
To work with the Matron to proactively identify and participate in the implementation of changes to areas for improving nursing practice and service delivery.
To be responsible for patient care, patient management, and patient flow throughout all areas of the emergency department during a given shift.
Be fully aware in detail of any potential 12hr breaches and know the implications for the trust in not meeting these targets, work closely with the site team to meet targets & prevent any potential 12hr breaches.
As shift leader to validate breaches on a daily basis.
To attend daily site, operational, and department huddle meetings to represent the department.
To have a strong understanding and knowledge of departmental, trust-wide, national, and governmental policies, protocols, pathways and to be responsible for their implementation and ensure compliance in the department.
Develop and maintain effective channels of communication between all members of the multidisciplinary team in order to ensure a high standard of coordinated patient care.
Attend staff, department, and trust-wide meetings as directed by the Matron and support with the development of any department policies and procedures ensuring they are disseminated to all staff.
To ensure that any incident, complaint, or other undue occurrence is managed in accordance with Trust policy and reported to the Matron.
