We are looking for a SEND Teacher to work in a primary school in East Central Bristol in their resource base. The school is committed to providing an inspiring and creative curriculum within a nurturing environment. About the Role
The SEND teacher role is within the school's purpose-built resource base for pupils with a primary need of Autism or Social Communication and Language Needs. The role includes:
* Teaching pupils as a whole class, in small groups or 1:1 according to their provision outlined in their EHCP.
* Working with outside agencies such as Speech and Language and Occupational Therapists.
* Directing support staff in discharging their duties to enable pupil progress.
* Supporting a weekly forest school session for all pupils.
* Regular training opportunities with specialised practitioners including the Bristol Autism Team.
Detailed Duties and Responsibilities
SEND Teacher (Resource Base)
* Plan, deliver and evidence high quality learning opportunities in line with the school’s curriculum for pupils with significant and complex needs associated with ASC and/or SCLN.
* Working in small class sizes with high staff to pupil ratios; plan, deliver and evidence high quality learning opportunities in line with the school’s curriculum.
* To work with the class team to promote a love of learning for our children and to enable them to make good progress towards their EHCP outcomes and individual Learning Intentions.
* Develop innovative and forward thinking approaches to learning and communication tools to maximize pupil potential and learning opportunities.
* To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with pupil needs and outcomes at the core.
* To safeguard and promote the welfare of pupils at all times.
* To model best practice approaches and support staff through challenging episodes with children.
* Ensure all aspects of the children’s education day is planned, assessed and reviewed holistically and that individual needs are met.
* Undertake activities as reasonably expected of a teacher and in line with the national teacher standards, which will include face to face delivery of planning to all children in your class whilst constantly evaluating your practice.
* Assessing and moderating children’s work in line with the school policies.
* Supporting Mainstream Teachers and Teaching Assistants with enabling children to access subject areas away from the resource base when appropriate.
* Delivery of therapy led programmes (where trained) to support progress towards EHCP outcomes.
* Overseeing the implementation and content of the EHCP for children in your class.
* Taking a lead in all meetings related to children in your class and liaising appropriately with internal and external colleagues.
* To manage and support all children with regulating and reducing challenging behaviour, this includes appropriate use of physical intervention (where trained) in line with the school policy and the individual’s Behaviour Support Plan.
* Undertake activities with either individuals or small groups of children in order to facilitate their physical, emotional and educational development which may include swimming, outdoor activities, animal care and community access.
* Promoting and reinforcing children’s self-esteem and encouraging the children to maximise their achievement and development, including promoting children’s independence.
* Appropriately risk assess activities and events for children.
* Working to establish positive relationships with parents/carers of children in order to facilitate effective communication, consistency and partnership between school and home.
* Following child protection and safeguarding procedures at all times, reporting concerns immediately and to remain up to date on all relevant and related safeguarding training.
* Building positive relationships with all colleagues and completing regular supervisions with the Teaching Assistant(s) for your class.
* Maintain absolute confidentiality and follow all GDPR related guidance and policy.

* To take responsibility for continued personal development through the performance review process and undertake both mandatory and developmental training as appropriate.

* Qualified teacher status.

* Confident and up to date in assessment for learning practice.

* Committed to working as part of a close team.
Pay rate is dependent on experience & qualifications.
