Job overview
The new role of Vascular Access Assistant was created aiming to develop the Vascular Access Practitioner in the insertion of Vascular Access devices.
The successful candidate will assist with the Vascular Access Practitioner in the insertion of Vascular Access Devices (Peripheral Inserted Central Catheters and Midlines), support and observe patients during device insertion, and assist with sterile procedures.
Main duties of the job
* Assisting in the care of the patient undergoing insertion of a vascular access device
* Supporting and observing the patient during the line insertion
* Maintaining a high standard of patient care
* Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* Maintaining patient confidentiality and dignity at all times
* Establishing effective communications between departments
* Capturing and maintaining patient data/documentation
* Assisting in positioning the patient for vascular access insertions
* Preparing tables/bed space as appropriate
* Ensuring familiarity with emergency procedures
* Maintaining a commitment to personal development
* To escalate issues or concerns in a timely manner
Person specification
Education, Qualifications
* 4 GCSEs C or above (ideally to include Maths and English)
* NVQ Level 3 or equivalent or willing to undertake a Level 3 apprenticeship in Senior Healthcare Support
* Care Certificate
Knowledge and Experience
* Some previous NHS experience
* Demonstrate through previous experience the ability to escalate concerns
* Experience with Aseptic non-touch technique procedures
Skills and Knowledge
* Good communication and interpersonal skills.
* Flexible – able to multi-task and prioritise
* Understanding of the need for confidentiality and data protection
