The Role Reporting to the Production Director, the Health, Safety and Environment manager will conduit the zero-harm commitment from the senior leadership team through every level of the business. Through an engaging, personable and proactive approach, you will coach, collaborate and empower employees at all levels, fostering positive change towards a safety culture of interdependence. You’ll maintain, develop and cultivate various systems and registers to ensure full legal compliance, risks are mitigated, and accreditations flourish. Working hours: 37 per week. Monday-Thursday 9am-5pm and Friday 9am-4:30pm. Working style: Office based. Responsibilities Health, Safety, and Environmental. Take ownership for, and lead safety behavioural change. Coach and develop team members around safety and environmental topics, working on leading indicators to drive the highest level of “zero harm” and “zero waste” safety and compliance. Ensure that team members understand and comply with health, safety and environmental regulations, company quality and environmental standards, and always follow safe working practices within standard operating procedures. Proactively lead the way in carrying out hazard reporting and embed this behaviour is in line with “zero harm” safety strategy. Maintain and develop risk assessments. Support employee wellbeing through regular dialogue and check-ins. Conduct incident, accident and non-conformity investigations/audits and provide high quality, timely reports, ensuring all remedial actions are completed. Continuous Improvement Be a role model for developing a culture of continuous improvement through the communications platforms available. Proactively resolve opportunities for improvement by root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventative actions. Effectively implement continual improvement ideas through a planned, coordinated, collaborative and iterative approach. Maintain systems, process and procedures to ensure a continual state of readiness for any internal or external audit. Ensure team are fully converse with all IT systems and are given opportunities to put forward ideas for improvement. People & Management Lead, manage, coach, mentor, train and nurture the HSE team. Act as role model and ambassador towards our company purpose, demonstrating our trademark behaviours. Liaise with key stakeholders within the production, warehouse & distribution, and office functions frequently, coaching and fostering a wider zero harm landscape. Work hand-in-hand with managers to help them discharge their responsibilities, through risk management and risk reduction principles, making sure the right checks and balances are embedded. Conduct safety training, briefs, best practice sharing, and support stakeholders and colleagues with training in order for messaging to permeate. Support and coach managers and team leaders to manage risks in their areas of responsibility. Advise, consult, and influence the senior leadership team. Conduct regular documented 1-2-1’s with team members focusing on objectives, performance, training and development plans. Implement the skills gaps analysis plans to ensure that the team are fully flexible Develop staff engagement and encourage positive safety conversation and collaboration. Motivate and coach your team and supporting peers to operational success. The Person You will demonstrate a full and deep understanding of Health, Safety and Environmental topics, underpinned with legal and regulatory knowledge associated with the running of a manufacturing, assembly and distribution business. You will have the gravitas to influence significant decisions, build key team relationships, and possess the leadership skills to maximise the potential of the HSE function via coaching, mentoring and empowerment. You will embrace personal challenge, be resilient, optimistic, and a change agent. You will be focused, zero harm target driven, with a positive, can-do attitude. Requirements (Knowledge and Experience): Demonstratable Essentials: NEBOSH safety qualification and/or, a MSC accredited by IOSH or IISRM, or 10 years of practitioner experience with an HSE environment. Creation of risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work. Management of ISO45001 and 14001 standards. Interfacing with the Health and Safety Executive, Natural Resources Wales, local authority, and insurers. Selecting specialist HSE subject matter experts such as DSEAR/EMF/Fire Risk Assessors and Occupational hygienists. Excellence in planning and organising. Excellence in communicating with the ability to liaise and influence at all levels. Proficient in Microsoft Office software e.g., Word, Excel, Power point, Outlook etc. Attention to detail. Problem solving skills. Approachable style, able to gain the respect and trust of team members. Resilience under pressure and a determination to succeed and make a difference. Desirable and advantageous: Experience gained within a manufacturing and distribution environment. Experience of operating within a multi-site operation.
