We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Health, Safety, and Security Lead to ensure the well-being of all employees and the security of our facilities. The ideal candidate will possess strong problem-solving abilities, a commitment to accountability, and a deep understanding of health & safety conventionally and in construction (CDM regulations) and security regulations and best practices.
Day to day duties:
* Develop, implement, and maintain health, safety, and security policies and procedures that comply with applicable laws and regulations for us, and provide support and strategic guidance for the Development Companies in their formation stage.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry best practices, regulations, and emerging trends in health, safety, construction and security.
* Set up and manage nuclear sector standard accident and near miss reporting tools and systems which can generate Board level reports.
* Attend the ARAC Board committee as required to discuss related issues
* Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential hazards and vulnerabilities. Analyse data and feedback to develop and implement effective mitigation strategies.
* Investigate incidents and accidents, determining root causes and implementing corrective actions.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address safety concerns and develop proactive solutions to prevent future incidents.
* Design and deliver training programmes that promote a culture of health and safety awareness. Ensure all employees are informed about safety procedures and protocols, fostering a proactive approach to safety.
* Monitor and report on health, safety, and security performance metrics. Take responsibility for ensuring compliance with regulations and internal policies.
* Conduct regular drills and training to ensure employees are prepared for various emergency scenarios.
* Identify opportunities for improving health, safety, and security practices. Stay informed about industry developments and integrate relevant improvements into existing policies and procedures.
* Attend Government and regulator security and safety forums to represent us and report back to the Head of the team.
* Work closely with the CISO to ensure that cyber and information security are considered alongside physical and personnel security.
* Carry out assurance activity on Dev Co Health, Safety and Security performance and produce reports for the Executive.
* Work with ONR and Government Security function for all aspects of physical and personnel security.
* Set up, procure and manage personal vetting services for us and for Development Companies in formation, to include BPSS, SC and DV as required.
* Support us in its business continuity arrangements both in its development and ongoing management and in leading the response to incidents within our estate (Duty Rota).
* Deputises for the Head of Health, Safety, Security & Quality (HSS&Q) as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience required:
* Security Cleared or able to be cleared to SC
* Proven experience in health, safety, construction and security management.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
* Proven experience of working under CDM regulations in construction and experienced in dealing with safety and security related matters, systems and risks. Doing so in a highly regulated industry a plus.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
* Proficiency in relevant software tools and safety management systems.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science or a related field.
* Relevant certifications (e.g. NEBOSH, IOSH) and have demonstrable work experience.
