Management Accountant - 6 Month FTC Job function/Scope: Provide financial information and analysis to the managers of assigned business units as required, ensuring that the information prepared is accurate and is available on a timely basis. Roles & responsibilities: Core responsibility · Prepare monthly management accounts for assigned business units, including the preparation of journals and balance sheet reconciliations · Develop a deep understanding of assigned business units and the reasons for variances between actual performance and the forecast/budget · Work closely with operations managers in order to provide them with a thorough understanding of all aspects of financial performance. Conduct monthly reviews of the management accounts with the operations team · Preparation of monthly reforecasts in conjunction with operations managers · Identify and implement improvements in internal financial procedures that will increase the efficiency of the monthly reporting cycle, including appropriate internal controls · Populate the board report with actuals and reforecasted numbers in advance of the deadline · Preparation of annual budgets in association with operations managers, ensuring that the budgets are robust and ready for scrutiny by the board of directors. Be prepared to challenge any assumptions that underpin the budgets. · Work closely with the Financial Controller(s) for the assigned business units, ensuring that collectively the finance function produces timely and accurate accounts that stand up to scrutiny. · Support the timely completion of the annual external financial audit through responding promptly to audit requests. Explanations and supporting documentation provided to the audit team should be clear and concise. · Liaise with the Shared Service Centre (SSC) team to ensure that purchase and sales ledger transactions are processed in an accurate and timely manner. · Support credit controller with recovery of aged debtors as required · Visit sites within areas of responsibility at least once a year in order to develop relationships with the operations team and to foster a culture of collaboration. Other potential responsibilities · Manage weekly cash flow. · Maintain fixed asset register. · Analyse client profitability where required · Completion of Office of National Statistics (“ONS”) returns · Completion of P11Ds/PSAs and submission of appropriate returns to HMRC · Completion of VAT return · Any other ad-hoc tasks as requested by Management Qualifications and experience: Professionally qualified accountant (CA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent) or qualified by experience Established in 1920, the organisation has expanded internationally with facilities at a number of prominent ports.
