Becoming a nurse in our Emergency Department will mean you join a team of hard-working, dedicated and highly skilled nurses in one of the busiest yet highest performing departments in Kent, seeing more than 100,000 patients per year.
The ED team is passionate about getting it right for patients and their families - in order to achieve this we are looking to recruit motivated and enthusiastic Band 5 Nurses who share our vision for safer, faster and better Urgent and Emergency Care.
Please note that applicants who are shortlisted will be expected to undertake and achieve a 95% pass mark on a basic drug calculation paper to proceed to interview.
Working days and or shift patterns will be agreed by the line manager to meet the needs of the service.
Main duties of the job
You will have excellent communication skills and enjoy working in a challenging and swiftly changing environment. You will have current acute knowledge and be able to demonstrate at interview your knowledge around current healthcare initiatives.
You would be supported by a Team Leader, Practice Development Nurse and Matron and this post would offer you the opportunity to be part of a motivated and forward-thinking team.
There will be opportunities for further study including the HDU, Mentorship and Emergency Care Practice courses.
Job responsibilities
Clinical responsibilities:
1. The assessment, implementation and evaluation of the agreed standard of nursing care.
2. Provide fundamental and advanced patient care.
3. Ensure that all nursing records and documents are completed accurately, legibly and contemporaneously.
4. Discharge patients following the nurse-led discharge protocol.
5. Assist the Ward Manager to ensure all staff are aware of prevention and control of infection.
6. Act as an advocate for patients and protect their privacy and dignity.
7. Ensure agreed standard for ward cleanliness by assisting with regular checks and audits.
8. Work at an appropriate clinical level and be a role model for all staff.
9. Manage the clinical area in the absence of more senior staff to ensure effective communication between all MDT members to ensure safe management of patients.
Managerial responsibilities:
1. Work closely with ward team in the management of patient care by providing good leadership skills.
2. Comply with all policies and guidelines.
3. Understand costs in order that all resources are used appropriately and efficiently.
4. Be an ambassador for the Trust in the most positive manner to patients and public at all times.
5. Assist in management of change in an effective manner and ensure smooth transition.
6. Handle conflicts, grievance and complaints in an efficient and professional manner and refer to senior staff.
7. Assist with regular audits on care and implement findings to ensure best practices.
8. Ensure a professional attitude at all times.
9. Ensure that the work environment is a safe place for patients, staff and the public.
10. Ensure confidentiality at all times in accordance with the Data Protection Act, Caldicott guidelines and NMC Code of Conduct.
11. Monitor standards of nursing care and be an advocate for patients.
12. Attend regular meetings as required and ensure effective communication at all times.
13. Advise senior staff on any problems concerning staff, their working practices and environment.
14. Minimise risk in the ward and adhere to Trust Risk Management Policy.
15. Ensure compliance with the medicines management policies.
16. Work as a team member and promote multidisciplinary team approach.
