Trauma coordinator role working at GRH. This is a very busy role managing the trauma workload for orthopaedics at Gloucester Royal hospital. All referrals come from all over the county and the role organises surgery for this group of patients. There are many components for this post and it is very challenging on a daily basis.
Patients are contacted and given advice on injuries and prepared to have surgery if appropriate. The team is very friendly and works well as a team. There is opportunity for development and you will be well supported while learning new skills. IT skills are essential for this post and the ability to communicate at the highest level as we are the main contact for this patient group.

Main duties of the job
Attend and organise the trauma meeting each day. Bring in and organise patients for the theatre list priority and organise beds. Contact patients waiting at home and give advice and support when required. Follow up investigations and patients waiting. Enter details and update Path point which is the trauma system used by the team.
You will need to be a good communicator and deal with difficult conversations on a daily basis. You will to be able to work under pressure and have excellent organisational skills.

Very friendly team that is helpful and supportive. Weekend work is required as the service runs 365 days of the year from 7.15 to 5pm each day. You will learn new skills and be well supported. IT skills are essential and the work ethic is very positive. Trauma office is the hub for the service. You will need to be a good communicator and be able to learn quickly and work under pressure.

Job responsibilities
Responsible for the smooth pathway from injury to surgery for a vulnerable patient group. Dealing with all the communication relating to surgery and the patient journey. Giving advice on injuries while patients are waiting at home. Responsible for ensuring that patients are prepared for theatre and their status known re COVID prior to admission. Dealing with relatives as required.
Trauma triage forms another part of the role where the nurse practitioner gives advice and guidance to patients that have been referred via the trauma triage service but does not require surgery or further management. Challenging work and you need to be able to deal with conflict and difficult situations on a regular basis.
