Environmental Sustainability Technician (Maternity Cover)

UWCSEA Dover is seeking an Environmental Sustainability Technician (Maternity Cover) to join the team. This role is a maternity cover role and will commence from April 2025 to the end of July 2025.
The successful applicant will enjoy implementing and managing a wide variety of biodiversity and sustainability projects with students and staff. They will be creative, adaptive, lifelong learners keen to investigate and implement solutions. They will build community connections within and beyond UWCSEA with organisations such as NParks to help understand environmental issues in our community.
Main Responsibilities
* Support the ongoing development of the Green Heart (sustainability zone on campus) for teaching and learning
* Work with others to create transformational learning opportunities for students, e.g., setting up a new butterfly garden and learning the life cycle of insects with Primary students
* Support sustainability projects on the campus
* Maintain and upkeep campus biodiversity and ecosystem and help to maintain healthy and thriving plants in the Green Heart
* Coordinate the use of Green Heart resources and facilities and provide assistance and advice in meeting the practical needs of the curriculum around environmental sustainability
* Help to prepare Environmental Sustainability teaching resources, equipment, and outdoor learning spaces for sessions with students
* Organise, manage and maintain outdoor sustainability learning spaces (including Green Heart) and their resources and schedules including maintenance, repair, pest management, and irrigation system monitoring
* Maintain a high level of safety standards in line with health and safety guidelines
* Manage deliveries, distribution, and storage of materials for sustainability projects
* Identify, track, and report data connected to environmental sustainability projects
* Assist with any other duties, tasks or jobs with similar levels of responsibility and complexity to the assigned job grade as may be reasonably requested by the line manager and/or the College.
Person Specifications
* Minimum Certificate / Diploma in an ES related discipline e.g., Plant Biology, Agricultural science, Permaculture, Environmental education
* Preferably with 2 years of relevant experience in a practical environmental sustainability position
* Passionate about environmental sustainability
* Motivated self-starter, curious, willing to learn, resourceful, assertive and able to work independently and flexibly
* Experience working with young people is a distinct advantage
* Enthusiasm for working with young people is essential
* Good interpersonal and communication skills to work with people from diverse cultures effectively and respectfully
* Excellent organisational and time management skills
* Working knowledge of Mac platform and Google Suite
* Contribute towards a positive working environment by working in a lively team
* Able to work outdoors and within physically demanding and dynamic operating systems
