An headteacher of an alternative primary provision is looking for two behaviour support assistants, one on a Full-time basis. The provision caters for children with Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) and therefore have struggled to maintain an education within a mainstream provision. The class sizes are considerably smaller, resulting in a holistic approach and support in terms of emotional development.
Work Duties
The role of a behaviour support assistant is to contribute positively to children overcoming their barriers to learning by implementing positive reinforcement and strong structure and boundaries. Many of the pupils have previously had negative experiences of school, feelings of failure, and frustration; therefore, it will be vital to develop their social skills and raise their aspirations. Encouraging assigned pupils with Behaviour, Emotional, and Social needs to participate and actively engage in activities led by teachers. Delivering and monitoring short-term interventions on behalf of disengaged and disaffected learners. There may be periods of implementing 1:1 or group interventions with the children and addressing their individual targets. Adopting a positive, upbeat attitude will play a vital role in developing and maintaining positive relationships with the children.
