Applications are sought for the role of Special Constabulary Chief Officer within Greater Manchester Police.
This is a challenging but rewarding role. As a senior leader, you will set the strategic direction of GMP's Special Constabulary while representing the force regionally and nationally. Reporting to the Force Assistant Chief Constable for Local Policing, you will be responsible for leading the direction and culture of the Special Constabulary, ensuring that organisational standards are met and agreed objectives are achieved.
You will provide a strategic link between the Specials Senior Leadership Team, the Citizens in Policing Team, and the Force Thematic Lead for the Special Constabulary. You will work with Regular Police supervisors and Police managers to coordinate the mobilisation of Special Constabulary resources in accordance with Force priorities.
You will develop a culture, climate, and working processes in accordance with the policing code of ethics and the Force Quality Standards and Behaviour framework.
The successful candidate will have exceptional leadership skills and experience in strategic development. You will have experience of leading people at a senior level within a large organisation.
You will be an effective communicator, possess excellent organisational skills, and have a demonstrable commitment to maximising the contribution of the Special Constabulary to achieving Force objectives.
To apply for the role, you don't need to be an existing Special Constable or have previous experience as a police officer or in policing—although either may be advantageous. The role, however, will require you to become a qualified/attested Special Constable and perform operational policing duties expected of a police officer.
Applicants wishing to apply for this role are required to submit a completed application form containing a supporting statement of no more than 1500 words detailing your suitability for the role by answering the below questions:
1. Describe an occasion when you have demonstrated leadership skills to overcome a significant problem. Explain your strategic thinking and decision making.
2. As a senior leader, how will you ensure Quality, Standards and Behaviour in the GMP Special Constabulary with special attention to Diversity and Inclusion and wellbeing?
3. Where do you see GMP Special Constabulary in 3 years' time and how will you ensure it gets there?
The closing date for applications is Sunday 3rd November 2024 (at 2359 hrs) and successfully shortlisted applicants will need to be available for interview week commencing 25th November 2024. The interview will consist of a presentation and a number of competency-based interview questions. The subject of the presentation will be provided at the point of successful shortlisting.
