An exciting opportunity has become available within the North East Assisted Ventilation Service as a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist. This new role requires an expert practitioner, with a highly developed knowledge and clinical skills in physiotherapy airway clearance and long-term ventilation, to join the NEAVS team.
The post holder will act as an autonomous practitioner in leading and developing the long-term ventilation physiotherapy services within NEAVS at the Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospital Trust. There will be a requirement for the Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist to be an active member of the NEAVS team in delivering a service regionally whilst also promoting service improvement with the wider MDT.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be required to act as a source of expertise on physiotherapy airway clearance and long-term ventilation, imparting highly specialist knowledge and current evidence-based practice. This exciting new role will also provide expert clinical leadership through teaching, supervision, advice, guidance, and information to the NEAVS Multidisciplinary team, other health care professionals, carers, relatives, and other non-professionals across the Trust and Partnership Organisations.
There will also be an opportunity to lead in partnership on developments and innovations in long-term ventilation within the Trust and with relevant external agencies, locally and nationally.
Job responsibilities
To be an expert practitioner, with highly developed knowledge and clinical skills in physiotherapy airway clearance and long-term ventilation, developing an advanced level of professional autonomy and accountability in the provision of such care. To act as a source of expertise on physiotherapy airway clearance and long-term ventilation, imparting highly specialist knowledge and current evidence-based practice. To take an active role in teaching, audit, quality improvement, and service development. The post holder will act as an autonomous practitioner in leading and developing the long-term ventilation physiotherapy service within NEAVS at Newcastle Hospitals NHS Trust. To promote Newcastle upon Tyne NHS Foundation Trust as leaders in long-term ventilation and as a national and international centre of excellence. Lead in partnership on developments and innovations in long-term ventilation within the Trust and with relevant external agencies, locally and nationally. In line with the Trust's commitment to clinical governance, develop, lead, and implement standards for clinical audit to evaluate clinical effectiveness and promote clinical excellence within NEAVS physiotherapy. To have a role in the development of multi-professional service development within the field of long-term ventilation. To provide expert clinical leadership through teaching, supervision, advice, guidance, and information to the NEAVS Multidisciplinary team, other health care professionals, carers, relatives, and other non-professionals across the Trust and Partnership Organisations.

Person Specification
Qualifications & Education
Essential
* Hold a degree or equivalent diploma in Physiotherapy
* Hold an MSc or have relevant respiratory training to MSc level and be prepared to study for MSc whilst in post
* Be state registered with the health professions council
* Independent non-medical prescriber (or commenced programme).
Desirable
* Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
* Involvement in the relevant CSP Clinical Special Interest Group e.g. ACPRC, BTS
Knowledge & Experience
Essential
* Be able to demonstrate considerable airway clearance physiotherapy and long-term ventilation experience at postgraduate level
* To have expert knowledge of the current evidenced research, quality improvement and experience of involvement in national audit.
* To be responsible for and actively participate in the in-service training programme within the specialty area.
* To be involved in the promotion of physiotherapy and long-term ventilation outside the service e.g. within the directorate ensuring that physiotherapy is incorporated into any new developments and linking with regional and national units.
Desirable
* Knowledge of current NHS initiatives e.g. National policy drivers

Essential
* Have the ability to reflect and critically appraise own performance so as to maintain own continued professional development (CPD).
* To be able to work effectively within dynamic MDT forums.
* Demonstrate highly developed communication skills.
* Able to demonstrate expert clinical reasoning and clinical treatment skills in relation to the specialty field.

* Formal Quality Improvement training
* Evidence of understanding research methods and their applications.
