South Tyneside District Hospital is looking to recruit 3 Qualified Chefs who will be required to work and provide cover across 7 days.
2 full-time 40 hours posts will cover 5 days out of 7 - 8 hours per day - working 10.30-19.30.
The 3-day per week post will cover Saturday & Sunday plus one weekday; this rota may alternate working 10.30-19.30 (enhancements paid).
These posts are predominantly backshift. There may be some early morning shift for cover purposes from time to time such as 10.30-19.30.
This post will organise ward food shortages, ensuring a timely, efficient service. Answering the telephone, organise the food delivery.
Starting Salary £25,669 rising to £27,395 plus enhancements.
Recent post holders of these roles have earned over £29,000 per annum with overtime and paid enhancements.
27 Days annual leave and up to 8 bank holidays (pro-rata).
Main duties of the job
1. To complete daily food service tasks to Trust locations. To ensure the patient, staff and visitor meal service is provided in a safe, clean and hygienic environment.
2. Ensure high standards of cleanliness are met and maintained.
3. Ensure that all food supplies which are delivered are checked following the Food Safety Management System (FSMS).
4. To be flexible on a day-to-day basis moving area to area and across departments within catering.
5. To prepare, produce, cook, and serve food to patients, staff and visitors.
6. To always maintain a clean safe hygienic work area, adopting a clean as you go policy record and accurately food safety information.
7. Chefs are expected to show a flexible attitude to work and work routine, as this can and will change from day to day.
8. On occasion, the chefs will be required to work additional hours to ensure service continuity, additional hours are paid at overtime or enhanced rates depending on contract.
9. Skills for food preparation and serving are required, ensuring deadline service times are met.
10. Fine knife skills required for accuracy and speed with preparation.
11. All aspects of food production methods and the completion of food safety records.
