Our client is a Tier 1 main contractor that works in the Civils and Rail sectors and due to recent project wins they are recruiting for a Works Manager to join their UK Civils Division in the North. The Works Manager is responsible to the Project Manager and works closely with the Site Agent and Quantity Surveyor. They are responsible for the management of the on-site programme in respect of delivery, workmanship and safety. The Works Manager ensures that adequate and proper labour, plant, materials and sub- contractor's resources are available to meet the requirements of the contract and in line with company policies. Some of the main responsibilities for this role include: - Establish and monitor key stage programmes - Set up the site and maintain site security (Maintain site hutting, hoardings and signboards to present a tidy and professional appearance) - Take possession of the site, plan and coordinate trades activities - Apply for temporary service connections - Interpret drawings and specification and communicate directions to site personnel, Subcontractors and suppliers Requisitions materials - Ensure that adequate method statements and risk assessments (RAs) are completed for high risk activities - Request outstanding information from the professional team and confirm all verbal instructions - Assist with ensuring all necessary approvals are in place to allow project to progress without risk (E.g. Hording Licence) - Review buildability and identify methods of construction with commercial or programme advantage where possible - With the Environmental Co-ordinator implement the environmental controls and work towards the objectives set out in the HSE plan (Civils) - Attend site meetings, subcontract and internal meetings - maintain and circulate notes and action points - Maintain site progress record and producing short term programmes - Identify non-conformances and implement corrective action - Keep the main site diary record and complete other site documentation as required - Supervise and manage all site sub-contract and works team activity and ensure competency of individuals carrying out duties - Monitor customer satisfaction and identify areas for improvement - Snag work before presentation to the client - Close out all issues raised by safety, quality and environmental reports and audits - Inform the QS of any matter for which extra payment may be due or additional costs are involved - Be aware of the conditions of the main contract and the conditions attendances of their contract with Subcontractors - Be involved in the management of the contract and undertake other reasonable tasks that may be required by the line manager - Manages the project team, supervise and develop works staff and ensure competency of individuals to carry out delegated duties
Requirements
Required Qualifications/Training: - First Aid at work certificate. - IOSH or equivalent H&S management training - Temporary Works & Excavation Safety - Permitting requirements for live energy works (Must be in conjunction with Site & Safety Management) - Working at Heights & Scaffolding - Lifting & Cranage operations - Other HSEQS training as per site HSE plan - Desirable Qualifications/Training - Degree or Diploma in a Construction related subject - Working towards an academic or a professional industry related qualification Experience & Skills: - Good Written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate with colleagues, clients and third parties, in a warm and persuasive way both formally and informally and able to alter style and method to suit audience - A proven track record of least ten years within a construction management environment with a similar National/Regional Contractor - Strong analytical skills - Organised with good time management and capable of proactive planning. - Ability to get the best out of individuals, teams & trade contractors and build consensus where differences of opinion arise - Able to relate company commercial strategy to own activities - Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of all the trades required on site, the codes of practice relating to them and the requirements for them, to be able to carry out required works - Delivery focused and driver of performance - Computer literate - Significant experience of managing Industrial Relations
