Job Summary:
The Strategic Communications Director will lead the development and execution of communication strategies to support government initiatives, policies, and objectives. This role requires deep expertise in working with government clients or within government entities, ensuring alignment with public sector goals, regulatory frameworks, and stakeholder expectations. The ideal candidate is a seasoned professional with a proven track record in strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, crisis communication, and crafting impactful narratives that resonate with diverse audiences.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communication Planning
* Develop and implement integrated communication strategies that support government priorities and policy objectives.
* Align communications with broader national and regional strategies, ensuring consistency with the client’s mission and vision.
* Anticipate and address potential reputational risks, providing proactive and reactive strategies to protect and enhance the organization’s public image.
Stakeholder Engagement
* Foster relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, public officials, media outlets, NGOs, and community leaders.
* Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, providing counsel on communication matters and public affairs strategies.
* Coordinate cross-governmental collaboration to ensure unified messaging and effective outreach.
Content Development and Messaging
* Oversee the creation of high-quality, compelling content, including press releases, policy briefs, speeches, and presentations tailored to government stakeholders and the public.
* Develop clear and consistent messaging to articulate complex government initiatives and policies effectively.
* Leverage storytelling techniques to humanize government projects and engage target audiences.
Media and Public Relations
* Serve as the primary spokesperson for government-related communications, ensuring accurate and timely responses to media inquiries.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with local, regional, and international media outlets.
* Oversee the planning and execution of press events, media briefings, and public announcements.
Internal Communications
* Ensure alignment between internal and external communications, promoting transparency and consistency.
* Support internal teams in understanding government priorities and their role in achieving organizational objectives.
Crisis Communication and Issues Management
* Lead crisis communication efforts, ensuring timely, accurate, and strategic responses to sensitive or high-profile issues.
* Prepare and implement crisis management plans to address potential risks and minimize reputational impact.
Performance Analysis and Reporting
* Measure the effectiveness of communication strategies through analytics, surveys, and stakeholder feedback.

Qualifications and Experience
Education
* Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Political Science, Public Administration, or a related field; an advanced degree is preferred.
Professional Experience
* 15+ years of experience in strategic communications, public relations, or government affairs, with at least 5 years working directly with government clients or within government entities.
* Proven experience developing and implementing communication strategies for large-scale government initiatives or public policy campaigns.
* Strong understanding of public sector operations, regulatory environments, and political landscapes.
