The Christie NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit enthusiastic, self-motivated and compassionate people to work in our hospital.
We are looking for individuals with experience in customer service, health care, or social settings who are highly motivated, caring, flexible, and possess proven problem-solving, communication, and keyboard skills.
An exciting opportunity is now available to work in our admin and clerical team located in the transport department. The post holder will be responsible for assisting in the high-quality service provided to our patients and staff, as well as the efficient running of the service.
The post holder will also provide health care assistance to patients waiting in the hospital transport waiting area under supervision and guidance from other team members, collate, input, and analyze basic patient data on a range of systems and web portals. The post holder must work within The Christie NHS Foundation Trust policies and Health & Safety legislation.
Hours are 30 per week on a flexible rota between 8:00 am and 9:00 pm, Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturday shifts as required.
Main duties of the job
1. Assist the transport admin team with clerical duties, booking non-emergency transport for patients to and from The Christie, and scheduling future transport appointments on the Ambulance Services portal.
2. Liaise with multiple transport providers.
3. Maintain cleanliness in the work environment, ensuring a safe environment for patients, adhering to infection prevention control policies.
4. Identify risks and undertake work activities safely.
5. Support and assist in alleviating distress and anxiety of patients or carers, consistent with their personal beliefs and preferences.
6. Assist in refreshment service as required in line with Trust hygiene and food handling policy.
7. Assist patients with mobility requirements and help position them appropriately.
8. Direct and escort patients/visitors where appropriate.
9. Assist patients in accessing appropriate toilet facilities.
10. Undertake the Christie Care Certificate.

Job responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Co-ordinate and oversee the booking of non-emergency patient transport for patients to and from The Christie.
2. Work with multiple computer systems including NWAS, WMAS (PTS Providers), taxi docket database, Google Maps, and the Trust Medway PAS system.
3. Plan and schedule volunteer drivers' workloads.
4. Maintain an electronic database of volunteer drivers' work and taxi bookings.
5. Use judgment to liaise with clinical staff regarding patient queries and the delivery of drugs, clinic bags, and medical equipment.
6. Apply medical terminology to ensure the correct vehicle is allocated for patient transport.
7. Review planned journeys to optimize routes.
8. Demonstrate good geographical knowledge for cost efficiency.
9. Ensure all non-patient transport is accurately recorded in the transport database.
10. Prioritize and manage own workload to meet patient needs.
11. Work independently at times and meet tight deadlines.
12. Be the first point of contact for administrative decisions on patient transport bookings.
13. Conduct and participate in regular surveys.
14. Provide assistance to other staff when delays occur in transportation arrangements.
15. Cooperate with colleagues for effective daily operations.

Qualifications
Essential
* Secondary-level education GCSE Maths and English at C-grade or above, or equivalent.
* Vocational healthcare qualification at level 3 or willingness to work towards.
