We are looking for Teachers or HLTA's with significant experience of teaching young people to join our dynamic team!Life Skills Hub Central is an independent special school working alongside young people who are between years 6-11. Our young people are inspiring, often they have come through obstacles in their lives, including a long time out of school. Our young people require bespoke and differentiated support and our cohort has a wide range of academic ability, SEND needs, and requires a wide range approaches to enable them to flourish. Our young people often have social, communication, interaction needs, sensory needs, social, emotional and mental health needs and learning difficulties. We are a therapeutic trauma informed school.As a Teacher or HLTA - you will be required to take on additional duties - with SEND experience of working with a wide range of special educational needs including; moderate learning difficulties, specific learning difficulties, Autism Spectrum Condition, ADHD, sensory needs and young people with significant mental health needs. You must hold your QTS or HLTA (with significant experience of leading a class), in addition to holding experience of working with and teaching young people with SEND.
You will be required to have an active teaching timetable at LSH Central, based in North Hull, on both 1-1 and a small group basis. We have a PAN of 25 students across 3 curriculum pathways, some of our young people may require some support from our keyworker team in the community, so the successful applicant will need to take a forward thinking and creative approach to engage all young people, no matter their designated curriculum pathway. It is essential you have significant teaching experience, a flexible working approach and a passion to help young people. Your teaching approach will need to demonstrate a practical, kinaesthetic and 'learning by stealth' approach to ensure it is purposeful and interactive for our young people. Young people's ability have a wide range from primary aged curriculum through to preparation for GCSES.
The successful candidate will be thorough with planning small sequential steps, working closely with the teaching and learning team to achieve the best outcomes for young people. Each young individual has a bespoke curriculum. The role involves taking a holistic view of teaching and learning, focusing on academic, therapeutic and practical life skills to fulfil our areas of curriculum intent. Our team is a multi disciplinary team, the role holder will be a strong communicator, team player and share LSH values and ethos. It is important you are organised, enthusiastic, and resilient. You will teach some areas of National Curriculum, functional skills, BTEC Pearson and AQA modules. The successful candidate will be an effective teacher, taking pride in their work, and ensuring that their teaching is bespoke and highly differentiated. The role holder will support other staff with knowledge of SEND and actively contribute to support differentiated work for our young person.
As an Independent School, we follow the statutory DFE Guidance for Independent School Standards for all aspects of our provision. The successful applicant will be used to supporting the safeguarding team with managing complex safeguarding and welfare needs, and ensure that they follow all LSH policies, procedures and risk assessments at all time.
Essential Requirements:
- Hold Qualifying Teacher Status or HLTA qualification (and can evidence significant class experience)- Worked with young people with SEND
- Passionate around making a different to the lives of young people we work with
Desirable:
- A specialist area of teaching
-Taught across multiple age ranges and with young people with significant anxieties and/or SEND needs.
- Worked in a specialist provision or school previously
- Hold a full UK driving licence
