Maintenance Engineer
Location: Ashton Under Lyne
Salary: £38,000 - £40,000 per year
Contract Type: Permanent
Working Hours: Monday – Friday, between 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Our client, a leading multinational company based in Ashton Under Lyne, is seeking to recruit a skilled Maintenance Engineer to join their team on a full-time, permanent basis. About the Role:
As a Maintenance Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of all site assets, with a strong focus on both electrical and mechanical systems. You will be responsible for maintaining, servicing, and repairing machinery, while also driving safety improvements, cost reductions, and process efficiencies across the site.
Key Responsibilities:
• Take a hands-on approach to lead the maintenance, servicing, and repair of all plant and equipment on-site.
• Ensure all work is performed in compliance with Global Standards, SOPs, and relevant UK EHS legislation.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of a Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) system for all site assets.
• Respond promptly to plant breakdowns and manage a comprehensive record of faults and machinery issues.
• Help manage an accurate inventory of critical spares and ensure availability of necessary components.
• Support the management of contractors on-site, ensuring all necessary Permits to Work are obtained and adhered to.
• Work closely with the Process and Warehouse teams to identify opportunities for first-line maintenance and assist in staff training.
• Collaborate with suppliers and contractors to source replacement parts and third-party services as required.
• Develop relationships with cross-functional teams to drive safety improvements, cost reductions, and process efficiency initiatives.
• Assist with the design, specification, preparation, and execution of Capital Expenditure Projects.
• Work as part of a collaborative team to address and resolve issues with bespoke equipment.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
Essential:
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar maintenance engineering role.
• City & Guilds/HNC Level (or equivalent) in Mechatronic Engineering / Maintenance.
• Experience within the Chemical Processing Industry, ideally in an ATEX environment and/or Lower Tier COMAH site.
• Completion of a relevant apprenticeship.
Essential Skills:
• Comfortable working with chemicals and managing associated risks.
• Strong ability to assess and mitigate risks within both personal actions and the working environment.
• Enthusiastic, flexible, and proactive in learning and adapting to new processes.
• High attention to detail and a thorough approach to tasks.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to follow instructions and raise concerns when necessary.
Desirable:
• Previous experience in a similar industry.
• Ability to communicate technical observations clearly and concisely.
• A professional and organized work ethic, and the ability to encourage the same in others.
