The team liaise extensively with the individual circuits and suppliers before and during the weekend, often identifying and solving potential issues before they arise. Circuit Engineering have a big role in new circuit design liaising with track designers and architects’ years in advance of the event to ensure F1 systems will be able to be deployed efficiently and safely for the race. They also survey each Formula One circuit, primarily using GPS and LiDAR, collecting, and continually updating topographical data used as the foundation to the F1 timing systems and to create the digital circuit maps given to the media and other 3rd parties to show key timing data. This information is also used to produce the detailed drawings that FOM uses internally for event and rig planning and provide track topography for the F1 Video game.
