We have a long history of providing high quality care, clinical excellence, and innovation in medical research regionally, nationally and internationally.
We’re in the top five providers of specialised health services in the country, supporting people with a range of rare and complex medical, surgical and neurological conditions, cancers and genetic orders.
Our staff oversee around 6,500 patient contacts each day, delivering high standards of healthcare.
We are committed to promoting equality and diversity and recognise the benefit in providing an inclusive environment. We value and respect the diversity of our employees and aim to recruit a workforce which reflects the communities we serve, and is equipped to deliver the best service to our patients. We welcome all applications irrespective of people’s race, disability, sex, sexual orientation, religion or belief, age, gender identity, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity and in particular those from under-represented groups.
Newcastle Hospitals are proud to be one of the exemplar organisations across the NHS on sustainability, with a long history of delivering Sustainable Healthcare in Newcastle (Shine) and the first healthcare organisation in the world to declare a climate emergency. Our strategy includes commitments to being Net Zero by 2030, for our direct carbon footprint, and Net Zero by 2040 for our footprint plus. Delivering these ambitions will not be possible without the help, support and action of every single member of our team.
Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a driven and enthusiastic Advanced Clinical Pharmacist to join our team here at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals.
We are looking for a dynamic individual to help establish and lead the Clinical Pharmacy Service into Trauma and Orthopaedics. The Trust has provided significant investment into pharmacy and views us as integral for the future. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with an interest in trauma and orthopaedics (T&O) to help grow the pharmacy service and become a key part of both the clinical board and pharmacy teams, all to help provide the best possible care for our patients.
The role will be based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary but may involve some cross site travel to our other large teaching hospital site the Freeman Hospital.
This is an exciting time to become part of the Pharmacy Team at Newcastle, where under the leadership of our new Director of Pharmacy, the team is set to grow and take on a number of new roles. For more information we would strongly encourage interested individuals to get in contact for an informal chat or visit to understand more about this role.

The successful candidate will work to establish themselves in both the T&O team and the existing Clinical Pharmacy Team. You will need to have excellent communication and decision-making skills and be an experienced independent prescriber. Previous T&O experience would be useful but is not essential.
We are looking for a leader to help shape the service and demonstrate what good pharmacy support can do for a team and for patient care. The expectation from the clinical board is that the pharmacy service to T&O grows over the next few years with the ultimate aim of providing a crucial 7-day service to their high-risk patient group. Within the role, there will be opportunity to pursue areas of interest to you, and you will be crucial in driving the direction of travel. The role will offer the opportunity to provide your expertise to patients when they need it most, using your prescribing skills to work seamlessly with pharmacy colleagues and other members of the MDT.
There will be opportunities for personal and professional development within the role. Links with the school of pharmacy and Newcastle University will present opportunities to be involved in research and education. There is opportunity to develop your supervision and management skills. There will be some operational commitments, including weekend/late night working and line management. As a department we are supportive of flexible working and would welcome a discussion about this with any potential applicants.
Working for our organisation
Our staff oversee over 6,500 patient contacts every day, delivering high standards of healthcare from the following sites:

These include a range of flagship services which deliver cutting-edge care (supported by state-of-the-art diagnostic services in both radiology and pathology) and are a catalyst for innovation to support pioneering clinical practice in the NHS.
We also have offices at Regent Point in Gosforth and community sites.
