Specialist Bioinformatics Technologist (XR06)
Applications are invited to join the Medical Physics Scientific Computing Group at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust as a Technologist. This job offers an exciting opportunity to use your software development and data analysis skills at the centre of service improvement working with the latest healthcare technology. The role would be suitable for anyone with a background in the Natural Sciences, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering or Informatics.
The jobholder provides bioinformatics services for medical physics and clinical engineering that enable and support operational services and research & development activity. The role will focus on supporting ongoing and future research into tumour modelling and treatment response.
This is a fixed term position with the potential for further development through programs such as the Scientist Training Program offered by the National School of Healthcare Science.
Main Duties of the Job
Specific roles include:
1. Participating in the development and implementation of novel clinical computer software devices, applications and models within relevant quality and legislative frameworks.
2. Applying data science methods analysing clinical and technical datasets, medical images and the results of computer simulations.
3. Working with academics, scientists, other technologists and clinicians, supporting multi-disciplinary research activity.
4. The jobholder takes a specialist bioinformatics technologist role within medical physics and clinical engineering and works on projects that might relate to radiotherapy, radiation protection, CT and X-Ray based radiology, nuclear medicine, MRI, renal technology, rehabilitation engineering or the deployment and management of biomedical equipment.
5. In addition, the jobholder will support research projects in the areas of tumour modelling and treatment response.
Person Specification
Experience
* A high level of specialist knowledge backed up with significant post graduate experience working on scientific computer software development and/or data science.
* Specialist knowledge of bioinformatics techniques, methods and practices.
* Specialist knowledge in the management, implementation and use of computerised healthcare technology including an understanding of DICOM and HL7 communication protocols.
* Knowledge of relevant standards including ISO 13485; ISO 14971; ISO 9001; ISO 27001; IEC 80001; DCB0129; DCB0160.
* Knowledge of using formal research methods.
* Experience in the design and development of medical device software.
* Knowledge of clinical process, and experience of working in clinical teams.
* Knowledge of Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering techniques, methods and processes.
* Knowledge of medical equipment asset/task management systems.

Qualifications
* Bachelor level qualification in bioinformatics, computing, medical physics or clinical engineering/equivalent qualifications backed up with relevant experience working in the field.
* Registration as a Clinical Technologist, Healthcare Science Practitioner or equivalent level of professional standing (e.g. other HCPC regulated profession, MIPEM, MIoP, MIET, MBCS, etc.).
* Postgraduate qualification such as MSc or PhD bioinformatics, computing, medical physics or clinical engineering or equivalent.
