We have a vacancy for a Clinical Pharmacy Technician to work within Urgent and Emergency Care at Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother Hospital, Margate. This is a fast paced but varied exciting environment, and your clinical knowledge is enhanced/developed on a daily basis to provide a patient focused medicines management service. You will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, where the goal is to ensure we provide an excellent service to our patients, with their safety and well-being at the forefront of everything we do. We manage this by regular teaching to other clinicians working in the emergency department to ensure that our knowledge is shared in order to grow and develop the team not only within pharmacy but to other patient facing staff. The Post will be suitable for either a newly qualified pharmacy technician or community pharmacy technician looking to start their hospital career as a band 4 to 5 progression. To progress to the band 5, the successful applicant would need to display that they could conduct the medicines reconciliations process, approach clinicians with confidence and resolve medicines related issues independently (within scope). As part of the progression, the applicant would also need to display specialist knowledge in acute and emergency medicine and be fully compliant with oral and IV administration Completing detailed medication histories using a multitude of sources in order to reconcile with current inpatient medications. Administering Intravenous and oral medications within scope of practice (Training will be provided) To counsel patients on new or changed medications to help promote compliance To aid Doctors and nurses with medication queries To evaluate the suitability of patients, own medications for use whilst in the hospital setting To participate in the discharge planning of patients with ward staff and other healthcare professionals both in secondary and primary care. To carry out audits on the department to ensure procedures are being followed Applications for this role should be written by the applicant.
