Trust Alliance Group was formed in 2022 and comprises several businesses that were previously part of Ombudsman Services. The Energy Ombudsman, Communications Ombudsman, Internet Commission and POPLA are now separate business units within Trust Alliance Group.
To deliver on our purpose of building and maintaining trust between consumers and businesses, we're developing diverse capabilities and expertise in a range of areas including digital alternative dispute resolution and case management technology.
Purpose of Role:
As a Data Scientist, you will join our forward-thinking Data Science team at the forefront of our strategic initiatives. The team harnesses the power of machine learning and statistical modeling to create innovative AI-driven products that are seamlessly integrated into our Case Management platform and support the work of our BI Developers.
In this role, you will work with diverse data sources, including complaint text, historical case records, and supplier performance metrics, to develop advanced models and AI tools. These solutions will enhance the accuracy and efficiency of decision-making processes for case workers.
Collaboration will be key, as you work closely with cross-functional teams across the business and engage with external stakeholders, such as energy and communications suppliers and regulatory bodies.
This is an exciting time to join TAG as we transform to a Data-First organisation; supported by our building of a green-field data platform utilising the MS Fabric ecosystem. 2025 has started with the release of our first Data Product, from this environment, that uses the Medallion architecture - supporting our Additional Support initiative to further improve the Consumer experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Teamwork & Development
1. Participate & contribute to the design and execution of data science initiatives that facilitate speedier resolution of Consumer Cases.
2. Work closely with key Stakeholders to shape data-driven strategies for operational efficiency and maximising value for externally & internally generated data.
3. Represent Data Science and the wider Data team with integrity, honesty, and represent ethical ways of working.
4. Work closely with experts and peers to understand scenarios and continuously improve model performance and accuracy.
5. Play an active role in Ideation sessions.
Modelling & AI
1. Design and implement advanced statistical models and machine learning algorithms to solve complex problems.
2. Develop and test machine learning models (e.g., classification, regression, natural language processing) to identify case issues, recommend resolutions, and predict case outcomes.
3. Implement Machine Learning models to extract patterns from structured and un-structured data.
4. Create AI-driven decision support tools to help case workers efficiently categorise consumer complaints and suggest potential resolutions.
5. Continuously improve and refine models, based on evidential feedback and performance monitoring.
Reporting & Communications:
1. Provide insights into AI model performance, case trends, and potential improvements.
2. Communicate complex AI/ML concepts in a clear and understandable manner to non-technical stakeholders.
Innovation:
1. Stay updated with the latest trends and technologies in data science and machine learning.
2. Identify opportunities for innovation and improvement in existing processes and methodologies.
Preferred Background:
1. A degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
2. 5+ years of experience in data science/AI or a related field.
3. Familiarity with Dispute Resolution processes and Case Management practices is highly desirable.
4. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or Scala.
5. Experience with machine learning frameworks and tools (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
6. Strong knowledge of statistical analysis and modelling techniques.
7. Familiarity with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) is a plus.
8. Expertise in Data Science Techniques including Machine Learning, NLP & Statistical Modelling.
9. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
10. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
11. Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
12. An understanding of ethics in AI, particularly around transparency, fairness, and bias reduction.
13. Problem solving attitude.
14. Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks with changing priorities.
