Nurture Learning is an all through, independent specialist school providing high-quality, therapeutic and child-centred education to learners in Kidderminster, Worcestershire. Our children come from a wide range of backgrounds, but all have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH), with Developmental Trauma as their primary area of need. Many will also have other Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The work we do is both varied and challenging and, as a trauma and attachment-informed organisation, all staff are provided with extensive therapeutic training and support. Our closely triangulated approach places the child at the centre of decision-making, ensuring that education and therapy professionals, parents/carers, local authority teams and, most importantly, our students can work together to secure outstanding outcomes for all. The Role We are searching for a new member of our team, who shares our passion and ethos. Central to this role is knowing the child, building professional, nurturing and positive relationships and motivating students. We require a learning mentor with experience of working with learners with SEN/SEMH. As a school, we maintain high aspirations for our children regardless of their learning journey and don’t underestimate the importance of qualifications to provide our children with life chances and opportunities. Our learning mentors support and inspire children, creating a sense of awe and wonder and making subjects and lessons real and relevant to them. We encourage exploration and new experiences ensuring our students are able to access the very best curriculum enrichment including offsite visits and educational and vocational sessions. Creativity and flexibility is key to providing a bespoke learning experience for each student. Our children require staff who are able to manage some complex behaviours. They know that our children require lots of attention, the right sort of communication, consistency and flexibility in equal measure, and a non-judgmental approach. Learning mentors support in-school therapy by adopting and following support strategies in the classroom. We maintain close relationships with parents and carers and expect learning mentors to assist teachers to communicate regularly with them. This requires empathy and understanding to support our families. We want our learning mentors to be part of the decision making that drives our school, provides outcomes for children and advocates for every child. We welcome their input – bringing their own interests and passions to the table. Benefits and Rewards Extensive training and professional qualification opportunities. Small class sizes. The chance to be part of an expanding organisation that recognises skill, effort and potential and grows its own management team. Safeguarding Nurture Learning is highly committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All school-based staff have the responsibility for promoting the safeguarding and welfare of children. All school staff should be aware of the school’s Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy and work in accordance with this document at all times. We are an equal-opportunity employer that is committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace. At Nurture Learning our children are at the very heart of every decision we make. We strive to deliver a holistic education experience which helps children develop personal qualities, which are valued in British society; for example, thoughtfulness, honesty, respect for difference, moral principles, independence, and self-respect. We aim to develop young people who are responsible, caring and respectful of others, and who have a strong sense of fairness and what is ‘right’. We want them to treat others as they would like to be treated themselves and to understand and celebrate diversity and difference. The school will help our children and young people to develop an inner discipline and will encourage pupils to not just ‘follow the crowd’ – they will make up their own minds and be ready to accept responsibility for what they do. They will grow through making choices and holding to the choices that they have made. They will want to be honest with themselves and with others. We prepare students for the next step in their development and educational journey whether that is school, college or other post 16 options.
