Student Mentor/Creative Lead
Purpose of the job:
Work directly with young people, helping them to build life skills, develop healthy relationships and make decisions that are right for them. Mentors are often involved in supporting and setting up projects to ensure safeguarding and support of students. Communicate with families including parents, guardians, and carers as required. Develop a creative programme including art, textiles, and other creative mediums.
Typical responsibilities include:
1. Support the operational team in the delivery of young people sessions.
2. Lead sessions where appropriate, ensuring correct staff ratios for all groups during the day.
3. Work with students, parents, carers, and commissioners to ensure good lines of communication throughout.
4. Assist the wider operational team in all safeguarding of students during workshop and classroom activities.
5. Setting up and running projects within a framework.
6. Mentoring vulnerable young people.
7. Maintaining confidential records.
8. Writing and presenting reports.
9. Facilitating workshops and community events.
10. Working with other organisations, such as schools, community groups, and police.
11. Transport lead and support where applicable.

* Help manage all risks associated within the role and report any concerns immediately to Line manager, CEO and/or OC Board of Trustees.
* Can work in a therapeutic and inclusive manner.
* Experience in a creative field i.e., arts/crafts.
Additional responsibilities include:
* Working with students 1:1 and leading groups at Oarsome Chance (OC) on classroom, workshop, and outdoor activities.
* Supporting students with managing low-level mental health and offering strategies to support them.
* Helping OC students to achieve safe and constructive engagement.
* Promoting a student-centred approach.
* Reading and understanding all relevant OC risk assessments and helping update them as necessary.
* Assisting the operational team to mitigate all risks associated within the workshops and all organised outdoor activity.
* Adhering to all OC policies and procedures.
* Assisting with multi-agency working around therapeutic and other interventions when required.
* Assisting the operational team with site visits for new students, parents, and carers including assessment of suitability for OC programmes including any safeguarding risks or concerns.
* Promoting inclusion and diversity.
* Ensuring confidentiality and safe storage of information and GDPR compliance.
Qualifications and education requirements:
Desirable but not essential as training will be given:
* Annual safeguarding for school staff KCSIE 2024.
* Conflict de-escalation in a school setting.
* MIDAS minibus driver’s accreditation.
* Safeguarding and protecting children L1.
* Foundation and Safety, Rescue Training (FSRT).
* RYA (or equivalent) first aid training.
* Mental Health first aider.
* Willingness to undertake further training and updates.

Pay: £27,560.00-£28,247.44 per year
