We are actively seeking a Materials Buyer to join the team!
Scope of Role
In this position you will play a key role in the procurement of all Mechanical and Electrical materials for the project. You will work closely with our Procurement, Operations and Accounts teams in ensuring the smooth transition of all orders from initial take-off to full Procurement and finally to final stages of invoicing. Full in-house training will be given on our processes and IT packages, as well as additional courses relevant to the role, if the applicant so wishes.
Key Responsibilities
* Adhere to the supply chain requirements set out for the project and order in accordance with the technical requirements outlined.
* Oversee the delivery of the material to site in a clear and professional manner by ensuring all items are available when required on site.
* Ensure all supplier invoices are cleared for payment on a timely manner to maintain the high-level of positive supplier relations expected by the company.
* Perform daily, weekly and monthly checks to ensure all paperwork is up to date, so efficiency remains at the expected high level.
* Order in accordance with the supply chain agreements currently in place for the project.
* Have full commercial awareness of the project, ensure purchases are made within the budgetary targets set out and any potential overspends are quickly coordinated with the commercial team and resolved.
* Obtain the best buying for material outside of the pre-agreed supply chain contracts, staying within budgetary targets with direction from Procurement Manager/Team.
* Coordinate with on-site operations and take-off team to ensure material take-offs are accurate and match the technical and budgetary requirements for the project.
* Coordinate with on-site operations and logistics to oversee the delivery of the material to site in a clear and professional manner by ensuring all items are available when required.
* Coordinate with site logistics and stores to ensure material stock levels are adequate for the installation rate of the project and excess stock/material that will not be used is quickly identified and removed from site.
* Build, manage & maintain relationships with clients, contractors, other construction professionals, suppliers, and site staff.
* Report to Operations Manager periodically, both informally and via pre-arranged reviews to add support to your role.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Qualifications
Essential
* 2nd Level education with strong literacy, numeracy, and IT skills.
Desirable
* 3rd level Education with strong literacy, numeracy, and IT skills.
* Interest in pursuing construction or business qualification.
Experience & Knowledge
Essential
* 2+ years’ experience in a similar role preferably in a construction environment.
* Extensive and demonstrable experience of the material orders.
Desirable
* Knowledge of M&E material rates.
Abilities and Skills
* Proven record of delivering on-time quality work with minimal supervision.
* Organized and structured approach to your work.
* Enthusiastic adopter/user of IT systems, with proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Excel.
* Excellent negotiating skills.
* Analytical, reporting, and problem-solving skills with good communication abilities.
* Ability to work under pressure and cope with a varied portfolio of work, progressing with reduced supervision.
