As the Experienced Analyst (Evaluation) / (Instrumentation and Production Control), you will analyse samples submitted using approved procedures with due regard to required accuracy, precision, and delivery times. You will be using instrumentation such as ICP-OES, ICP-MS, and XRF. You will follow established procedures and guidelines to perform routine procedures to test the quality of the organisation’s materials, products, and processes, contributing to the planning and definition of quality standards and recommending modifications in product or process.
Your responsibilities:
1. Ensure the work is performed at minimum cost by making efficient use of time, equipment, and materials.
2. Ensure all regulations regarding Environment Health & Safety and security are strictly observed.
3. Attend approved training courses as requested, complete online L&D courses, and actively participate in receiving analytical skills training and assessment.
4. Ensure required standards of housekeeping and workplace efficiency are maintained using 5S and Lean methodology as appropriate.
5. Maintain a proactive approach, generating improvement ideas through Lean Foundations; 5S and CI Projects.
6. Establish and maintain all necessary communication links within and outside the Laboratory to help ensure good customer service is maintained.
7. Carry out any other duties which are within the employee’s skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.
Requirements for the role:
1. Degree or HNC in Chemistry or related subject as a minimum or relevant Industrial experience.
2. General PGM Chemistry knowledge.
3. Strong safety awareness – contributing to team COSHH and RA reviews.
4. Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise samples, key customer samples, understanding of SLA’s and lead-times.
5. Understanding of the requirements of: ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO17025.
6. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office including Outlook.
7. Lean Foundations; maintains a proactive approach, generating improvement ideas.
8. Presentation and report writing experience; competent for internal parties.
Work Environment:
Primarily based at Brimsdown Site; some travel for collaboration and understanding best practice with our sister Laboratory may be required. Some additional shifts at weekends during peak times, such as stock take, may be required. The role is for instrumentation work (ICP-OES & XRF), Monday - Friday, 37 hours a week.
Physical Demands:
Protective clothing and equipment will be routinely worn, such as lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and face visors to protect from potential chemical splashes. Minimal lifting, generally up to 15kg max. If furnace or fire work is required, appropriate PPE is supplied for heat protection.
