Their Aerospace Fuels Division currently has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Design Engineer, specializing in aircraft fuel and inerting system components for both civil and military applications. This role is based at their Titchfield, Hampshire site.
What You'll Do:
You will work within the NPI (New Product Introduction) Design team, focusing on new aerospace designs. The role has a dual focus:
1. New Product Designs: Developing new aerospace designs, primarily fuel pumps and valves.
2. Post-Design Services: Supporting existing products in production and addressing customer issues such as material problems or heat treatment errors. The product range spans NPI projects like fuel pumps and valves, and legacy products, including pneumatic parts, offering an opportunity to expand your technical expertise.
The role involves the complete lifecycle of design activities for a wide range of aircraft pumps, valves, and actuators—from concept, detailed design, development, verification, and qualification to post-design support.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design aircraft fuel system components using 3D CAD (CREO or other 3D CAD packages like CATIA are used onsite).
2. Complete tolerance analyses, detailed drawings, DFMEAs, Engineering Change Requests, and customer approval paperwork.
3. Participate in DFMA activities.
4. Investigate and resolve non-conformance requests, providing technical support and managing obsolescence.
5. Drive adherence to deadlines, ensuring activities are completed on time to impact financial and delivery targets.
6. Review and update manufacturing drawings, addressing issues like obsolescence or cost reductions.
7. Provide technical authority for signing off on non-conformance requests and detailed drawings.
8. Present designs and attend design reviews (Preliminary, Critical, Detailed) and material/change review boards.
Qualifications & Skills:
1. BEng Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, with a strong mathematical foundation.
2. Ideally 5-7 years experience in design, with proficiency in geometric tolerancing, material knowledge, and engineering theory.
3. Background in Electro/Mechanical Engineering and experience with aircraft fuel system products is advantageous.
4. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
5. Previous experience in safety-critical industries like aerospace, rail, or nuclear is highly desirable.
6. Physics or similar degrees with strong engineering theory will also be considered.
7. Knowledge of encapsulated products used in electrical/electronic components is beneficial.
8. Strong collaborative skills and the ability to communicate well with internal and external stakeholders.
Technical Skills:
1. Proficiency with CREO is preferred, though experience with any 3D CAD software package (SolidWorks, CATIA) is valuable.
2. Ability to make informed design decisions based on fundamental engineering principles, such as buoyancy.
3. Experience with Design for Six Sigma, investment casting, and subsequent machining is an advantage.
4. Strong mathematical background to support technical decision-making and design documentation.
What They Offer You:
1. Competitive compensation and benefits package.
2. Opportunities to work on challenging projects in a dynamic and collaborative team environment.
3. Commitment to your growth through internal promotion and ongoing learning and development opportunities.
4. Wellbeing programs to prioritize your health and safety.
