Bedford, MA based manufacturer of medical devices and consumables seeks a Buyer/Planner to support Supply Chain responsibilities for an established 140-employee entrepreneurial organization.
The candidate will be expected to manage key supplier accounts including negotiating pricing contracts, delivery, location, and payment for these commodities. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for supporting the achievement of the supply chain team’s KPIs including supplier quality, cost reductions, on-time delivery as well as control of the overall inventory levels.
The candidate will operate collaboratively with key cross-functional teams including but not limited to: Production, R&D, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Customer Service, and Finance.
Qualifications or Skills Required:
* Experience in purchasing technical components to be used in the manufacturing of medical devices, as well as supporting the MRO needs of the business, while maintaining a GMP, ISO, and FDA-compliant manufacturing facility.
* Experience with ERP/MRP systems (FourthShift experience is a plus) as well as MS Excel, Word, Outlook, and other common computer applications.
* Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years procurement experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Excellent analytic skills are required for this position. Ability to achieve a clear vision of any situation and plan accordingly. Ability to work in/with cross-functional teams.
* Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and professionally respond to questions from internal and external customers/suppliers.
* Capable of reading, interpreting, and understanding technical/mechanical drawings, board schematics, specifications, and material documentation.
* Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
* Must be a self-starter, understanding how to be proactive in following up and when the need for additional support is required.
* Willingness to adhere to and apply ethical Purchasing and Planning methodologies and practices.
* Ability to work in a dynamic environment and be able to act expeditiously to pull in and push out ERP demand messages to support a Lean environment.
Responsibilities:
* Strategically manage and take ownership of specific product families, ensuring appropriate supply to meet technical, quality, logistical, and financial goals and objectives.
* Perform research, quotation, and auditing activities per established procedures to secure sources of supply.
* Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers to ensure a continuous supply of materials.
* Conduct cost analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities and drive cost-reduction initiatives.
* Assume a primary role in the contact of business activities between Medica and its suppliers for the associated commodities.
* Monitor and manage supplier performance, ensuring on-time delivery and quality assurance.
* As needed, interact with Manufacturing Engineers, R&D Engineers, Quality Control, Finance, and Operations to correctly communicate all business requirements between Medica and its suppliers.
* Select and negotiate terms and conditions for contractually binding supply agreements/purchase orders between Medica and its suppliers.
