Job overview
We are looking for a patient focused, motivated, passionate nurse with an interest in clinical research and good project management skills.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our established and experienced clinical research team at Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust. Due to our success and reputation in clinical research, we have recently become a 'spoke site' for the NIHR Commercial Research Delivery Centre to improve access to commercial research trials and new treatment options for our patients.
The post holder will be expected to work flexibly across different clinical areas and specialties at both our hospital sites.
The successful candidate will support senior research nurses and other clinicians to deliver clinical research, once trained and competent leading studies independently. The role will involve working flexibly within the team yet have the ability and confidence to work independently when needed.
A comprehensive induction and training program will be provided, as well as ongoing mentorship support and buddy system. Previous research nursing experience is not required. We would encourage nurses with experience from a range of clinical backgrounds to apply.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will:
1. Manage a broad clinical workload and assist with recruitment of patients into research studies and their ongoing follow up across a range of clinical specialties.
2. Have responsibility for identifying potential patients for trial entry, assist in the informed consent process and co-ordinate screening tests and appointments throughout the trial.
3. Be responsible for managing a caseload of patients, collecting accurate data, arranging tests, examinations and appointments according to specific research project protocols and local processes across a range of specialty areas.
4. Be visible in clinical areas working effectively both independently and as part of a team to offer clinical research options to patients and oversee their care and participation in research trials.

QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING
* Registered General Nurse with current NMC registration.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* Responsibility to plan own post basic education to meet the requirements of the service and professional revalidation.
* Working towards appropriate degree.
* Teaching/Mentoring Certificate skills or willing to work towards.
* Attended research training courses.
* Work together get results (WTGR) training.
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE
* Broad knowledge and experience of clinical nursing practice within an acute hospital environment.
* Interest in clinical research.
* Experience of teaching, supervising and mentoring staff.
* Knowledge of Data Protection Act and Confidentiality.
* Experience of taking charge of clinical shifts either as a nurse or Allied Health Professional.
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and willingness to develop computer skills.
* Evidence of good management and organisational skills.
* Able to undertake pertinent clinical skills e.g. venepuncture.
* Knowledge of drug therapies for common medical conditions.
* Enthusiasm for and desire to embed research within clinical practice.
* Research and audit experience.
* Understanding of research networks and clinical trials processes.
* Knowledge of future provision of services.
