Laboratory Support Technician
As a Laboratory Support Technician, you'll play a vital role in supporting the laboratory and acting as a key liaison between internal stakeholders and the laboratory teams.
Our laboratories are integral to our operations, ensuring the safety and cleanliness of drinking water and the correct treatment of waste products. This is a fast-paced environment where teamwork is essential, and full training is provided to help you succeed in this collaborative role.
Base Location: Spencer House, Reading.
Working Hours: The Customer Service & Logistics department operates Monday to Friday, from 10:30 am to 21:00 pm. You will be required to work different shifts during the week, including:
* 10:30 am to 19:00 pm.
* 12:30 pm to 21:00 pm.
Please note that this role involves manual handling and lifting of sample cases and consumables, some weighing up to 20kg.
What You'll Be Doing as a Laboratory Support Technician
* Processing daily deliveries of samples and consumables via the goods inward area, ensuring timely delivery to the relevant analytical departments.
* Identifying, investigating, reporting, and resolving any issues with samples upon receipt.
* Preparing and distributing bottles to the Thames Water teams for sampling, while maintaining accurate laboratory records.
* Managing the disposal of clean and waste sample bottle contents after analysis, along with washing and recycling those bottles.
* Responding promptly to internal customer inquiries.
* Identifying opportunities and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
What You Should Bring to the Role
* A-levels (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with strong interpersonal abilities.
* A proactive attitude towards self-improvement and process enhancement, with a willingness to share ideas.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer literacy.
* Comfort with repetitive tasks and a strong interest in working in a laboratory setting.
* Physical ability to lift heavy objects.
