Overview:
Morson is currently recruiting for a Commercial Manager to join a leading provider of essential infrastructure services within the UK energy sector. The company is expanding its Commercial Team to manage substation contracts, specialising in delivering critical services across electricity, gas, and renewable energy networks. They work closely with major utility companies to ensure the maintenance, upgrading, and expansion of energy infrastructure. The company plays a key role in supporting the transition to cleaner energy through large-scale projects, including smart metering, electric vehicle charging, and renewable energy installations.
Skills and Experience Required:
1. Proven experience in a Senior or Managing Quantity Surveyor role
2. Strong expertise in contract management, including capturing site records for variations and valuations, while supporting project teams
3. Comprehensive experience in sub-contract management
4. Skilled in cost and value reconciliation
5. A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying
6. Proficient in contract costing and financial management
7. Solid understanding of contract law and its application
Key Responsibilities:
1. Gather and compile relevant information for the timely preparation of reports and claims, including notices of escalation, ensuring adherence to agreed deadlines.
2. Support the ongoing integration of commercial expertise across all site personnel, fostering strong relationships with Business Unit and Project Managers.
3. Continuously consult the project risk management plan to ensure accurate, high-level risk assessments, while regularly reviewing project contracts to guarantee full compliance. Oversee the risk register and related documentation to maintain alignment with the risk management plan.
4. Lead and manage a commercial team, including Senior Quantity Surveyors, Quantity Surveyors, and Assistant Quantity Surveyors, across a portfolio of projects.
5. Actively enhance knowledge of commercial issues and contract law, driving the effective management of compensation events, variations, and claims, and ensuring key learnings are captured across the team and portfolio.
