Purpose
Leads and oversees Operations Technology within Capital Markets Technology globally ensuring business strategies, targets and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.
As the technology owner, you will be responsible for the strategic direction, leadership, and oversight of the Global Operations Technology team in Europe with a focus on modernization across the portfolio. The role includes developing and implementing the appropriate Operations technology strategy, which mitigates operational risk and delivers value, in collaboration with Global Wholesale Operations stakeholders and regional Technology teams.
The incumbent will:
1. Manage all technology aspects of Global Capital Markets for Europe within the Operations portfolio.
2. Own and manage the GLOSS portfolio of projects globally and support Gloss globally for GBM.
3. Manage overnight batches globally for the Operations Tech Portfolio.
What You'll Do:
1. Lead and drive a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
2. Ensure round the clock production support for Operations applications, managed globally.
3. Manage medium to large projects with IT spend between $2MM and $15MM.
4. Apply modern technology to new operational requirements.
5. Be nimble in delivering to business and regulatory deadlines.
6. Implement new practices and frameworks such as Agile, Lean, Design thinking, and DevOps.
7. Build a high-performance environment and implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment, currently 75 staff.
8. Communicate the Bank's risk culture and risk appetite throughout their teams.
9. Aggregate capacity and demand of the work portfolio.
10. Ensure the timely development and implementation of multiple applications and IT solutions involving multiple systems, dependencies, and stakeholders.
11. Plan and direct application/technology projects and ongoing support, leading their teams of Project Managers, Developers, and Business Analysts.
12. Foster effective communication skills to executive leadership, business leaders and staff.
13. Interpret and implement a continuous improvement process and mindset for production issues.
14. Manage policy development to address ongoing complex business issues.
15. Deliver and manage highly complex technology programs consisting of multiple IT projects for various business partners and stakeholders.
16. Build and maintain strong working relationships with peers and management within the business lines.
17. Partner with stakeholders to translate business requirements into actionable strategies.
18. Act as a primary interface between operational owners and other technology groups.
19. Create an environment for effective and efficient operations in accordance with Scotiabank's Values and Code of Conduct.
What You'll Bring:
1. Engineering/Development or strong technical background is required.
2. Experience implementing medium and large solutions.
3. Experienced with vendor communication and management.
4. Extensive IT and business/industry work experience.
5. Relevant capital markets knowledge and experience.
6. Excellent business knowledge and experience.
7. Process knowledge and experience in scheduling, resource allocation, risk management and systems design.
8. Critical thinking, continuous improvement and transformation in leading the group.
